I know the Bible is true because...

    * It is infallible. There is not one contradiction with these pages. Humans are fallible; the Bible is not.
    * The Word of God is the source of true wisdom. It is the wisest book ever written.
    * Its prophecies have never failed.
    * Its promises have always come through.
    * It identifies with every type of person; it can melt to coldest of hearts.
    * It has a depth and complexity no man can simulate.
    * It changes your life; giving meaning to it.
    * It offers hope and faith. "Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God."
    * It speaks to one's heart.
    * It offers good moral standards by which to live.
    * It is comforting.

"I know the Bible was sent from God, The Old, as well as the New; Inspired and holy, the living Word, I know the Bible is true.
I know the story of Christ is true, His virgin, glorious birth, His life, His death, and the open tomb, And His return to to earth.
I know the Bible is wholly true, For peace it gave me within; It finds me, comforts me day by day, And gives me vict'ry o'er sin.
Tho' foes deny with a spirit bold The message old, but still new, Its truth is sweeter each time 'tis told, I know the Bible is true!" --Gene Routh.

"Whenever we read the obscene stories, the voluptuous debaucheries, the cruel and torturous executions, the unrelenting vindictiveness, with which more than half the Bible is filled, it would be more consistent that we called it the word of a demon than the Word of God. It is a history of wickedness that has served to corrupt and brutalize mankind."
    Thomas Paine

"There is much in the Bible against which every instinct of my being rebels, so much that I regret the necessity which has compelled me to read it through from beginning to end. I do not think that the knowledge which I have gained of its history and sources compensates me for the unpleasant details it has forced upon my attention."
    Helen Keller

Utopian and Chef, fwiw, I haven't given up on the Bible either, not by a long shot.

But, imho, it's wise to open the mind and broaden the perspective...not everything is always as it seems.

    Swedish Chef,

You must be joking, right? Either you are a troll, VERY stupid or totally uninformed. Any of those three options don't look good for you.

But in case I'm wrong, I'll present you with a series of VERY simple challenges to you own assertions. These challenges are so simple that even a CHILD could understand it. That's probably why you won't understand it:

    * It is infallible. There is not one contradiction with these pages. Humans are fallible; the Bible is not.

Prove it. That the Bible is infallible, that is. I can show you several HUNDRED examples where it is not, but since you made the assertion, the burden of proof is upon you.

    * The Word of God is the source of true wisdom. It is the wisest book ever written.

Prove it and please present your evidence why the Bible is wiser than say, "Chicken Soup For the Soul" which I consider to be a Holy Book.

    * Its prophecies have never failed.

Prove it. I've got a whole list of prophecies that failed, including those made by Jesus, but once again, you made the assertion, you have the burden of proof.

    * Its promises have always come through.

    Prove it.

    * It identifies with every type of person; it can melt to coldest of hearts.

Prove it, and while you're doing that, tell us how it "identifies" with the Canaanites and other enemies of Israel. It didn't "identify" with them at all. It just made sure they were exterminated. The Bible is a book of severe racism, and is not unlike the Koran in that area.

    * It has a depth and complexity no man can simulate.

Therefore, it is bullshit. If God wanted to use a book to teach us what to do,. he wouldn't have a book that is so "deep" that the average schmuck couldn't understand.

    * It changes your life; giving meaning to it.

    So does Viagra. Yawn.

    * It offers hope and faith. "Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God."

    So do horoscopes. Yawn.

    * It speaks to one's heart.

Bullshit. Hearts beat blood, and that's all they do, you moron.

    * It offers good moral standards by which to live.

So? All so-called holy books do that.

    * It is comforting.

    So is a good mattress.

"I know the Bible was sent from God, The Old, as well as the New; Inspired and holy, the living Word, I know the Bible is true.

Well, THAT is conclusive evidence, if I ever saw it! YOU know, therefore it is true! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA!

*I know the story of Christ is true, His virgin, glorious birth, His life, His death, and the open tomb, And His return to to earth.

Prove it, since you "KNOW" it. Anything you KNOW you should be able to prove with solid evidence. Do you have any?

*I know the Bible is wholly true, For peace it gave me within; It finds me, comforts me day by day, And gives me vict'ry o'er sin.

    Prove it.

    * Tho' foes deny with a spirit bold The message old, but still new, Its truth is sweeter each time 'tis told, I know the Bible is true!" --Gene Routh.

It might help if you used modern English to make your argument. However, even using older English doesn't make your case.

    Now, PROVE IT!

I'll bet you a hundred bucks that you cannot conclusively address each and every challenge of mine in this post. Moreover, I'd be willing to bet that you just post some lame bullshit and run away and not face the challenges I've thrown right back into your face.

YOU ASKED FOR IT, NOW YOU DEAL WITH IT.

My first thought when reading this post is to suggest you read the 4 gospels. Just as an example, pay attention to what is said in each gospel regarding what they should wear or cary. ie. sandals, staffs,....etc.

This Scritpture describes God's Word so beautifully:

HEBREWS 4:12:" For the word of God is alive and exerts power and is sharper than any two-edged sword and pierces even to the dividing soul and spirit, and of joints and [their] marrow, and [is] able to discern thoughts and intentions of [the] heart."

So, imperfect people (barbaric jews) produced a perfect book. Makes perfect sense to me. Funny how no two christian religions can agree on what the perfect book really says.
