As thrilled as I am with the RC, I'm a little disappointed this document was never highlighted. . . .

I would have loved for any of those bethel heavies to have read this crap and try to explain it with a straight face.

"...if the one who views child pornography does not involve anyone else in his actions, this is not considered to be child abuse from a congregational standpoint..."

    What... the FUCK???

Although this document is appalling, nothing about the WTS surprises me anymore.

The higher-ups are so impressed with their own brand of legalism - enforcing petty rules, dictating every aspect of the R&F's lives - that they can't help but write this bullsh1t down in some manual or whatever.

Has anybody emailed this document to Angus stewart?

Remember the Dateline and Panorama exposes in 2002? The WT PR man gave some reassurances that the WT was and would be further refining its child protection policies in order to keep children safe.

Well, ladies and gentleman, this 2013 document is the result.

It shows the utter contempt the WTS has for children, the authorities and the wider public.

"Historically, whenever political figures have consistently favored laws that foster leniency for various types of crimes, in almost all cases it has been demonstrated later that it was due to them being guilty of said crimes." Sir82

This is precisely the point I was trying to make. It explains the mindset that fosters villainizing the victim while sheltering the accused.

    I bears repeating

I guess "refining" has been redefined as "staunchly reiterating"?

Seriously though; post-Dateline, they did state that past offenders could no longer hold any poitions of responsibility in the congregations, anymore.

A few years later, however, they quietly backed off on that, because, I suspect, they were (and still are) running out of "qualified brothers"...

I guess "refining" has been redefined as "staunchly reiterating"? - yes, or "fobbing off"

Seriously though; post-Dateline, they did state that past offenders could no longer hold any poitions of responsibility in the congregations, anymore - this cannot be reconciled with the 2013 document.

A few years later, however, they quietly backed off on that, because, I suspect, they were (and still are) running out of "qualified brothers"... - I'm not sure how to feel about this. On the one hand I think it's good that WT is running out of 'qualified brothers' but if this leads them to reinstate paedophiles then this is very bad because it negatively impacts upon children.
