Never was a JW, and am fascinated by the demon stories . Can anyone verify that Demons are currently/today talked about?? I guess they just sound dated, perhaps from growing up years, say 20 years ago? I really need to know if this is still going on, or has died down some? ALSO, are women still not allowed to do anything at a meeting other than play music? At what age do kids start giving talks?

    THANKS! You are all GREAT.

Although I was never a jw I did visit the local cong to investigate the latest goings on .Yes demoms are still very topical .Women are allowed to answer at the Wt study during the meeting and still pretend they are instructing each other during the theocratic book study ,and also still comment at the weekly book study also allowed to clean the hall and sing .I have seen some very young children being trained in the theocratic book study as public speakers ,we are talking pre teens.

From what I saw, demons and the wariness about them still pervade the JW culture. They're everywhere tempting and degrading mankind, don't you know. To quote Geraldine (Flip Wilson), anytime something goes awry, "the DEVIL made me do it!"

Women do more than play music in the JW congregations. Actually, the tapes and CD's have replaced live piano performances of the "Kingdom Songs". Anyhow, women can give answers during the question and answer meetings, and they can give student talks on the midweek "School", however only to each other rather than as a direct address to the congregation. They also have the "privilege" of doing most of the preaching work and also most of the Kingdom Hall cleaning work while being directed by "brothers".

Kids start out giving little talks when they're anywhere from 5 to 10. I started myself when I was about 8 years old, some talk about "birds".

    Auntie Jane,

Here are quotes from 3 different magazines outlining the dread JW's are instructed to have of the demons.

    *** g95 2/8 10-11 When Will the Tragedy End? ***

What is at the root of all these problems? How will they be eliminated? The Bible explains that the family unit is under attack by unseen wicked spirit creatures, Satan and his demons, who take pleasure in brutality, sexual exploitation, and perversion. (Genesis 6:1-6; Ephesians 6:12) When Jesus was on earth, children were attacked by these demons. One young boy suffered the torment of being thrown into convulsions and being thrown into a fire.Mark 9:20-22.

Even centuries before Jesus was on earth, demons reveled in the torture and the burning to death of young children offered to hideous pagan gods, such as Baal, Chemosh, and Molech. (1 Kings 11:7; 2 Kings 3:26, 27; Psalm 106:37, 38; Jeremiah 19:5; 32:35) Therefore, today, in this world that is becoming more and more depraved, it should not be surprising that demons target children for suffering at the hands of willing human agents who inflict humiliation, pain, and death upon youngsters. Perpetrators of such monstrous crimes often feed their minds on pornography, which fuels their perversions.

    *** kl 113-4 12 Resist Wicked Spirit Forces ***

12 When you comply with the counsel of Gods Word regarding spiritism, you spurn the bait of the demons. (Compare Psalm 141:9, 10; Romans 12:9.) Does this mean that wicked spirits will stop trying to capture you? By no means! After tempting Jesus three times, Satan "retired from him until another convenient time." (Luke 4:13) Similarly, obstinate spirits not only attract people but also attack them.

    13

Recall our earlier consideration of Satans attack on Gods servant Job. The Devil caused the loss of his livestock and the death of most of his servants. Satan even killed Jobs children. Next, he struck Job himself with a painful disease. But Job kept his integrity to God and was greatly blessed. (Job 1:7-19; 2:7, 8; 42:12) Since then, the demons have made some people speechless or blind and have continued to revel in the suffering of humans. (Matthew 9:32, 33; 12:22; Mark 5:2-5) Today, reports show that demons sexually harass some and drive others to insanity. They incite still others to murder and suicide, which are sins against God. (Deuteronomy 5:17; 1 John 3:15)

    *** w87 11/1 6 True Religion Dispels Fear-How? ***

Superstitious fear of the dead dies hard. Why? Because eerie things do happenlike that night when a middle-aged woman in Suriname heard someone calling her name. She ignored it, but invisible "hands" then began to touch her, and when she objected to that, she was nearly strangled by an invisible force. Perhaps you wonder, If the "spirits" of the dead are not alive, then who was responsible? Again, Bible knowledge dissolves superstitious fear.

It explains that wicked spirit forces, called demons, do exist. Those demons, however, are not departed souls. They are angels of God who rebelled and sided with Satan, "who is misleading the entire inhabited earth." (Revelation 12:9; James 2:19; Ephesians 6:12; 2 Peter 2:4) The Bible shows that the demons find delight in misleading, frightening, and harassing humans. The account at Luke 9:37-43 relates that a demon threw a boy "into convulsions with foam" and afflicted him with bruises. Even when the boy was led to Jesus, "the demon dashed him to the ground and violently convulsed him. However," the account continues, "Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit and healed the boy and delivered him to his father."

Interestingly, the Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological, and Ecclesiastical Literature defines superstition as "the worship of false gods." Thus, if you perform such superstitious acts, you are, perhaps unwittingly, appeasing "false gods," or the demons! Such false worship is a serious offense against Jehovah God.Compare 1 Corinthians 10:20 and Deuteronomy 18:10-12.

Thus their own magazine condemns their actions regarding the harboring and protection of serial child molestors within their congregations!!

    Auntie,

    I was raised a JW since birth....been out for 7 years....am 48 now.

I remember tons of DEMON experiences, though NEVER encountered one.

I remember an elder telling of an experience where a witness while on a bible study heard voices come out of the householder....the couch floated up in the air.

Onother told of storiy where a quja board was burned in a fire and demons were heard cussing.

In the Bible when people were possessed by demons they were uncontrolable maniacs. Witnesses today believe a person can be normal......but have demon problems. The comparison doesn't jive.

There have been threads here about ghost experiences....you may find it helpful to find them.
