Oh God, I Hate That Tune.

Last week, I was gurgling merrily at an episode of the Simpsons. It was the one that is a parody of the "Thelma and Louise" film where Marge and her chum are being pursued by Homer and Chief Wiggum.

Marge's chum is trying to impress her with her cool music, but when she turns on the car radio, it begins to play one of her less cool tunes, something that I have never heard before called "Sunshine and Lollipops". This repeated itself several times in different vehicles, whenever anyone turned on the radio, Sunshine and Lollipops came blaring out. By the end of the programme, the tune was buzzing in my head like a demented wasp.

'Bout a week later, the buzzing had subsided somewhat, and out of idle curiosity I looked up the song on Google to see who had sung the dreadful song. Ah, Lesley Gore, she of the "It's my Party" '60's hit! But then...........

Damn, the tune started playing through my speakers! Sunshine lollipops and rainbows.....!

How do I get this damned tune out of my head? It's driving me nuts!

Start humming Kingdumb Melodies instead. That'll make you wish for Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows.

What? You don't want to sing about "soldiers of Jah?" I'm incredulous!

I'm also not clicking on that link, or I'll have the bloody song stuck in my head. It's bad enough I have French songs stuck in my head...

Oh terrific. Now I've got THAT bloody song in my head...Here...let me torture you..."Soldiers of Jah do not seek a life of ease. The world and its rulers they do not try to please."

    Kill me. Now. Quickly.

Don't recall Soldiers of Jah, but I'm an old codger now, so it's probably after my time!

    I do remember, though:

    What will you bring?

    Triumphant kingdom!

    Dum dum de dum

    De dum dum dum!

You could try these lyrics - Simon came up with a while ago

Song No. 32 - "From House to House"

From house to house, from door to door, annoying everyone
Who huddle down and make no sound until they're sure we've gone
Of course they do not realise we'll just come back again
We write 'NH' on our 'S8' and count the time again.

From bus to bus, from train to train, 'informal witnessing'
Of course it's just a way for us to not do anything!
We leave the plodding up to those who choose to pioneer
The wierd and smelly we avoid or those we think are queer (no offense to anyone :)

Of course it's not at every door we find a hearing ear
And if we do, the chances are, they're on their fourteenth beer
'Twas just the same in Jesus' day, no one would hear his word
But then the crap they make us say is really quite absurd

They send us out, from door to door, to spread the "kingdom news"
It's either that or clean the hall and polish all the loos (that's a toilet in england)
The magazines we carry round are full of doom and gloom
And most of them we do not sell just end up in our room

Oops I forgot, they're not 'for sale', we give them at 'no charge'
But not 'no cost', I know I lost, ten quid on this last batch
So when we come, annoying you, and knocking on your door
We're suffering as much as you - in fact we suffer more.

BTW: You havent heard an annoying song that stick in your head, until you've watched Barney the Bl**dy Dinosaur. Walking around Tesco and find yourself singing I love you, you love me.....or do your ears hang low.

Oh lord Ang! Barney the Dinosaur, lord I wish he would become extinct! You won't thank me for this, but I particularly hate all those songs that they always play at parties (or get-togethers if you're a dub)

These all fill me with horror:

    • Agadoo
    • Superman
    • The Birdie Song
    • Hi Ho Silver Lining
    • Macarena
    • Doop
    • Barbie Girl
    • Hey Baby by DJ Otzi
    • Mambo Number 5

    Bleuugh!!!!
