Reams and Reams of Information

This post is primarily for those folk on this board, who post copious quantities of JW info on this board.

    Please don't!

I can understand your wanting to help present JWs and those looking for info on the Organisation, but this is not the place for posting reams and reams of info. Most of us here know already this stuff. There are web-sites dedicated to providing this information.

This site is a discussion board - a place to chat, discuss (not argue!) and support each other.

In the past it has been likened to a coffee shop - but in recent weeks it has looked more like a mine field. There is no need for animosity. You might win the battle but it will make it harder for you to win the war (if you think there is one) by providing proof that those that leave the "Truth" are bitter, argumentive and unhappy with their lot. Is that what you want?

Those that are looking for info on the history and doctrines of the JW religion will find abundant sites dedicated on the subject. I applaud the ones that go to the trouble and expense to do so. But this is not what this site is primarily for. Sure, we can post news, updates and info not generally available, but primarily this is a discussion board. Ok? And please don't turn it into another H2O. If you want the nastiness of H2O, go back there and leave us alone. This place is for friends who want to be friendly.

    Morning Prisca,
Thank you for sharing your view on this matter. I too have noticed a change in the board. But there are alot more active members now and alot more opinions to consider. Yesterday there was 3 pages of new posts since my last visit. I remember when there would only be 3 new posts for one day. And I bet the ones who have been here longer remember the days of 3 posts for a week.
So what I am trying to convey is I like some of the newbies and have really benefitted from their posts. The reams and reams of info will be answered by those that are interested in it. And if it is ignored it will just be stuck on page 2 and continually fall back.
We can still have our coffee shop. Matter of fact I just got done with my coffeee and Hardees biscuit's and gravy It is a southern traditional meal I still haven't mastered
    Lotsa love,
    wendy

    Prisca,

I, am generally in agreement with your thoughts. What I have been chagrined by are posts that are ad hominem in nature, attacking the individual as much as his/her message.

Was this style 'polular' at H20? I only visited there once via a link on this forum. Someone was discussing agnosticism or atheism; the poster commented that to understand the development of Christianity one needed to research Egyptian history relating to the time of Christ. There was some sort of comment such as 'if you don't believe me, check this out' (not exact wording - just the idea.) So, thinking I would find a site pertaining to Egypt's history - I opened the link only to be greeted with a blow-up pic showing me the "F" finger. No real harm done, I'm a big girl...exposed to it all the time while waiting for a bus when the high-schoolers' are standing around...trying to act so 'cool.' In fact, what actually offended me was the fact that I (perhaps, perceived) felt I was deceived or misled. So, that was my first and last time on the H20 forum. I'm sure not everyone there lacked manners...but I get the idea from some comments of new posters that it was a a different sort of place.

I have enjoyed many of the new posters - 'Norm' comes to mind - he presents very thought provoking information from the WTBS' publications. And, there are others who are bringing up personal experiences and great research. Thank you all. Hoping we can stay a respectful, 'friendly' place to share....Zazu

    Zazu,

Re personal attacks, I`m afraid that it was very common on H20. Frequent attackers included You Know who could be incredibly rude, Friday, or Yadirf as he is now, has at least some humour but is prone to shouting "Liar liar" at frequent intervals and has all the usual JW sex hang ups (how disgusting etc etc), most of the pro JW brigade were like that.

I always enjoyed Farkels writings, but he doesn`t suffer fools gladly, so make sure of your facts before you confront him, if he thinks you are being stupid he will say so.

Seeker 4 and Amazing are very well worth reading, I only wish that Gedanken would put in an appearance.

The above, is of course, my own opinion, but thats what I think anyway.

    Hi Prisca,
I'm sorry you feel that way. Discussion can't encompass those things?
It makes for serious discussion......altho I certainly agree the ad hominems are not necessary........
The board is having a growth spurt, with a lot of diverse thought.with growth comes change.....
I personally enjoy reading that material here,as it backs up claims and asserions made.... when jw's(ex's) get together it seems like it would be pretty natural to have such discussions,to clear the cobwebs, get the accurate info,etc......I figured this board was (by it's very name) what that is all about......tryin to understand here, regards,Tina

Tina, Norm, and other h20 alumni,
I realized today how my above comments might have been unwelcoming to you. I apologize to you for that and have erased them into oblivion.

perhaps they simply reflect [...] other's adjusting to the changing environment of a place that they've come to find very intimite and comfortable.

The above articulates better the reason for my intial post. My hope is that what drew many of us here in the first place will continue to be what makes here different than there.

Let me try again, welcome to the board. I look forward to getting to know you, and of course, benefiting from the different perspectives.

P.S. I couldn't post this as a new post because the system wouldn't let me.

    Englishman,

Thanks for the 'low down' - I took notes in order to figure out who is who. LOL

(Just in case you Brits' have a different meaning for low down??? LOL again.)

U.S. slang meaning "the whole truth."

Actually alias, many of us came here before the 'major players' as you call them.....it does say at the top of the board 'free to discuss ANYTHING witness related''''doesn't it? WHy this seige mentality? This 'us against them'....you're painting all of us h20'ers with a very wide brush. And sounding quite judgemental and condemnatory to boot. Freedom of speech allows all their views and allows all to counter-view.
Isn't it a choice on your part? You can choose what you want to read? That's what started the probs on h20,some taking away our freedom to choose. I really don't understand this, maybe it was a mistake to come here.......if I see that,I'll gladly leave,Tina

    Tina:

Ironic how the extreme "us against them" mentality is one of the chief controlling techniques of the WT.

I initially registered first on H2O, then on JW.com. I found H2O very abrasive. Plus there were a lot of Brits here, so I felt more at home. Consequently, I now post almost exclusively here, but still read H2O and occasionally post there too.

You're right about reading what you want. Obviously, certain posters specialise in essays about WT material. If someone doesn't enjoy that, then simply don't read it!

I hope you stay. I enjoy your posts and your humour!

    Hi expat!
Thanks for the kind words :>
I also thought the same regarding the controlling technique of the wts.
Change isn't easy,we;ve all been there :> I think we can get into a 'comfort zone' somewhat complacent,,,,,,then boom, something comes along and forces us to rethink where we are :> Life has a tendency to do that quite often lol.
IMHO,it's also about posting/communication styles. Just as clothing, one size does not fit all....what won't work for some, will work for others......that's the beauty of diversity and tolerance.
I agree h20 had/has it's abrasive moments.....tho I don't care for it that much,I actuallly did see where that worked for a few.
I'm hopeful that we can all get along together :> Boards resemble life,we're not gonna like everyone we meet and we certainly aren't going to agree with everyone we meet.......so we make the choice to respond or to not respond. Hopefully we won't shut them up or place undue restrictions on what they can express,or how to express that,,,(leads us back to communication styles lol)
Thanks and I certainly love your posts and always read em when I see your name, hugs,T
