OOOH, OOOH! This one just clicked in too:

So we tanned his hide when he died, Clyde,
And that's it a-hanging on the shed.

Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport - again, can't remember the artist...

If you're gonna go to novelty songs, I may have to start posting Weird Al...

Plum's still in on it, and Mac sometimes. Well, you pegged the novelties... I figured everybody would be able to jump them right off the bat... but you surprised me twice: by knowing the relatively obscure Dovovan tune, and by not knowing two other very well-known, often-played songs by famous rock bands of the sixties/seventies. Go figure!

Even with the Donovan hint, I can't pick out which song is his from your list.

Okay, more lyrics on the remaining two:

    1. When I come home, baby,
My house is dark and my pots are cold
      You hangin' round, baby
With Gene and Joan and a-who knows who
    2. And though your jewel-encrusted blade
      Has not been plundered still
The sea has washed across your face
      And taken of its fill

Yep, you got it (that was me, not Mac, though). Billy Joel also covered it, in fact, his version was released even before the Dylan album that contained the tune.

    COMF:

but you surprised me twice: by knowing the relatively obscure Dovovan tune,

I didn't think Hurdy Gurdy Man was that obscure. Donovan was one of my favorites as a teenager, so I may be biased, but that song was one of his biggest. It was a huge radio hit at the time it came out, as I recall. Hasn't gotten as much airplay as some of his others in the intervening years, though.

and by not knowing two other very well-known, often-played songs by famous rock bands of the sixties/seventies.
Guess you'll have to remain surprised, then, because even with the additional lyrics, they don't ring a bell. For a second, I thought #2 was Wrapped Around Your Finger by Sting/the Police/whoever, but on second thought, I don't think it is. Like you, I'll probably slap myself on the head when I find out what they are.

Aw, this is too much, man. If the sound bites don't do it, I'm gonna have to go off and sit in the corner going, "Eh, b'dee, b'dee, b'dee" for a while. :)
