    Excellent, as usual.

What FuTheism fails to realize is that the GB aren't being nice by mentioning their screw-ups. They are mentioning carefully selected tidbits to create an opportunity to say, " See how humble, discreet, and progressive we are??! We are just a loving bunch of "normal" guys, that Jeehoober has to use. We wish we were better, but we're all Jeehoobie's got! We love you, very much!"

The WTBTS makes changes for a few reasons:

    1) Money

    2) The natural passing of time that proves their prognostications to be utterly false.

    3) Money and the passage of time.

Rest assured, they reveal specific "cherished errors" while simultaneously revising their history. The purpose is to create a new religious brand for the next generation of dubs. Sadly, as you have said, each successive generation that stays becomes dumber.

The greatest generation that ever left the WTBTS were those who renounced Rutherford. Those who stayed have steady declined into a race of servile, pseudo bible students, who cannot fathom reasoning for themselves.

So how do **you** determine whether it's genuine humility or fake humility?

It makes no sense to simultaneously say that the Society doesn't want the average JW to know about the problems of the past Society, and THEN at the same time to say that the Society is intentionally telling these JWs about these problems, making them aware of them.

For example, there was no urgent need for them to talk about all their past errors and mistakes with the Types/Antitypes and Parables, but they made a huge deal about it, and about going through and correcting those views.

To me this was simply a "loss leader" intended to make the average JW see the GB as magnanimous and humble and thus worthy of their continued support. The GB was willing to take one on the chin with this one, especially since this was a doctrine that most JW's didn't understand anyway and would be happy to see being thrown out. Time would soon bear out that these old understandings were incorrect anyway so they may as well make lemonade with the lemons that were handed down to them.

    Excellent post....a keeper for sure.

It's easy. Have you ever had someone hurt you? I mean something really bad like lying, cheating, slander, ect? Did they say that they were sorry...and then deflect and say, "well...you did such and such.."

If they never say, "I'm sorry" without making some excuse or deflecting, then they don't mean it. If they don't mean it, then they didn't really believe you deserved an apology, because they didn't believe they were in the wrong. That means they aren't really a humble person.

Has the GB ever...EVER come clean and said, "We are sorry."???? Has anything EVER been their fault, without any excuses or deflection onto the R&F??? Are they ever really wrong?? No. There is always an excuse.

Their history of "revisionist history" shows that they don't really feel that YOU or any R&F need an apology. Their "pattern of wrongdoing" shows that they are not really sorry. They have never shown repentance for anything, because they don't believe they need to.

THAT is how you determine real humility from false humility. A truly humble GB/FDS would accept full responsibility for EVERYTHING that ever went wrong on their watch with ZERO excuses.

A humble GB/FDS doesn't make a video in their new televangelism studio, telling the sheep that "apostate driven" lies are being told about pedophilia in the organization. A humble GB/FDS tells the 100% truth before God and men...PERIOD.

Spot on Magnum!! It seems to me that any admissions of error by the Governing Body are "pre-emptive" only, not genuinely "humble" admissions. They are aware of JWs coming across negative material, such as the pyramidology, and have probably received numerous letters and phonecalls to the service/writing departments about them....so they have to get in before the majority of JWs become aware of them. Sort of like extingusishing a fuse before the bomb detonates. If an "apostate" was to try to inform a JW about pyramidology, he will likely answer, "Oh, I know about that!".........when we know he doesn't really...He only "knows" the GBs sanitised and half-truth explanation, but that will be good enough for the typical JW.

    _______________

    Excellent query!

The answer is: it is genuine fake humility!

In my opinion, these are not 'self-aware' people at the top. These are men who view themselves as pious, beset, and humble.

When errors are shoved in their face, it makes them sad rather than angry. Heaving a heavy sigh, the G.B. acknowledge how errors of the past are on par with over-eager puppies knocking over a bowl of water.

They are totally unaware of their culpability in misleading by wrong-headed guesswork!

The Administrators accept a presupposition and never test it for validity.

Brother Ray Franz called them "Captives of a Concept' for a good reason: they never test the premise that Jehovah has channeled THE TRUTH through them from the get-go.

THEY ARE UNABLE to even begin to consider self-delusion.

Otherwise, wouldn't the G.B. attempt to explain how it is even possible for Jehovah's "Truth" to go in one end of the "channel" and come out as dog shit on the other end?

They've been staring at the scriptures as though it were a kaleidoscope with ever-changing patterns!

How else can you explain the variations they've taught, revoked, and reshaped for the last 100 years?

Self-questioning is NOT in these people's DNA.

Muhammed Ali constantly proclaimed, "I AM THE GREATEST," and proceeded to win the heavyweight boxing championship again and again and again.

The Governing Body proclaimes, "WE ARE THE TRUTHIEST" but end up knocked flat on their face with false teaching after false teaching.

With one difference: when the Watchtower prints the headline it reads: 'ANOTHER KNOCKOUT FOR THE Faithful Slave!!"

In other words, they believe their own hype.

They buy-in to the bullshit they print.

They are PRETENDING somehow whatever they print is always true, and can only give a tiny shrug of the shoulders when it isn't.

    "Cherished errors"; damn, that's well-put.

FusionTheism - "So how do **you** determine whether it's genuine humility or fake humility?"

    Genuine humility:

"We were catastrophically wrong about every prediction we ever made, we acknowledge that it severly damaged lives, we're very sorry, and we want to make reparations somehow."

"We were catastrophically wrong about our anti-blood stance, we acknowledge that it severly damaged lives, we're very sorry, and we want to make reparations somehow."

"We were catastrophically wrong about our policies on child abuse, we acknowledge that it severly damaged lives, we're very sorry, and we want to make reparations somehow."

"We were catastrophically wrong about our disfellowshipping policy, we acknowledge that it severly damaged lives, we're very sorry, and we want to make reparations somehow."

"We were catastrophically wrong about our position on homosexuality, we acknowledge that it severly damaged lives, we're very sorry, and we want to make reparations somehow."

"We were catastrophically wrong about our positions on Biblical innerrency, impending apocalypticism, and our own sense of exclusivity and superiority, we acknowledge that they severly damaged lives, we're very sorry, and we want to make reparations somehow."

    Fake humility:

"Mistakes were made, but not neccessarily by us, so listen, obey, and be blessed."

The core appropriated amount of corruption of this organization is located in the appealing self image if its own leaders (GB) that they have been being selectivity chosen and guided by god's holy spirit.

That is obviously worth more in protecting and upholding than any living human being, including innocent impressionable children.
