I would guess that WT has had virtually nothing to say about Freedom of Religion as they would rightly fear a knowlege of it spreading thru the 'fightened sheep class'.
Can someone (looking at Blondie) do a search to see what's been printed?

Bottom line: what the WTBTS and the Elders are guilty of is coercion:

So are JW's being coerced by the threat of being DF if they don't shun a friend or family member?
Certainly not all of the JW's want to shun a dear friend or family member.......but all are forced to.
A JW believes they have received a death sentence if they don't return to the organization. If the DF person doesn't believe that........ their family may. With those that believe Armageddon is coming is this a form of torture to not be able to even speak to a son or mother etc?
Freedom of religion means you get to worship as you wish. You get to change your mind and walk away or join a different church usually with no negative consequences. It doesn't matter if the bible says it's ok to shun, and that interputation is in doubt as Jesus seemed to have a different view of how to treat a sinner.
The bible also taught to burn witch's and stone people to death. Governments have declared these things against the law and a church better damn well know it.
The Catholic church has had to answer for it's considerable crimes against it's followers. It doesn't do those things any more.
The WTBTS has not been held accountable for a long time in any number of situations and scams but now things are coming out.
The Mormons, the Amish, the JW's, the Scientologists are facing governments that have laws on the books that are now being used to rein them in.
Shunning can be attacked in a civil court for using duress to compel believers to engage in the practice and in some cases as the cause for self harm.

Yes, I don't know if it falls under a violation of freedom of religion, but once a religion is telling your own flesh and blood to shun you because you left or fell out of favor with them, I feel it's crossing some kind of line in the area of human rights.

The best thing to do to counter this, is to Fade, and take action as Ajax has outlined. By using his method of taking away their power, and taking back all the power to yourself, you have your religious freedom.
At some point you may have a small altercation with Elders to contend with, but whip out your legal document that shows you removed their power some time ago, and what can they do ? Really ?
