Article: If God saved an American doctor with Ebola, why did he let 1,200 Africans die?

It doesn't matter how sophisticated people think they are, religious belief always boils down to:

"god love my tribe better than all other tribes ... you die, we live so our god strong ... if we die then god angry"

Even if your 'tribe' is white-skinned-american or just 'gingers'.

To his credit, this doctor was working in Liberia as part of a charity mission at the time of the outbreak. Feet on the ground.

I think there is much, much more to this Ebola virus than they are telling us, like where it came from and why. Remains to be seen.

    Jeanette,

There you go more than you could ever wish to know about the ebola virus. Wikipedia has a good article as well telling you where it came from and why.

If there is anything else you wish to know please do ask.

    Thanks

Apparently, he was holding hands and praying with patients. Now, by putting himself at risk did he divert / consume more resources than he provided?

It's insane practices like that which put everyone at risk.

To her credit, Michele Hanson is a 72 year old former school teacher who lives with her dogs in Tufnell Park.

Let say there is no god or at least not one that we can put in a box.

People that do scary things need to believe there is something more than nothing.

    Even if it is bullshxx

Many people would not be policemen or military men if they thought this live was all there was

and they could easily loose it.

Atheism and expanded thought processes are something for the affluent.

Also belief and fear of god is a way to control the masses.

Once you expand your thinking you become a different sector of the masses.

You become enlightened and that and 2$ will buy you a coffe in a lot of places.

When I was young it used to be and that and 25cents/ two bits will get you a cup of coffee

    anyplace.

Maybe more and more people are becoming aware of the so called God delusion.

more and more people are on anti depressants

    Is that good?

In a way and maybe its a delussion just like the grass is always greener on the other side.

But it seems like life was simpler, not knowing the truth about the truth.

    I would never go back.

And there being no god is really simpler than all of the rules and regulations of any particular god.

I assume this doctor's training extended beyond holding hands. Missionary doctors like this are the eyes, the feet on the ground during the first days of an outbreak, and provide indespensable care. They are the first line of defence against an outbreak. In this case, it was a few hands trying to hold back a flood.

Fine, you may not care for his beliefs, but give him credit that he was working where few of us would dare to.

The idea of God saving someone from a virus is kind of a paradox. You see, God would have had to create the virus, and would also have created humans with vulnerability to such viruses. Unless perhaps God left that part out of the punishment he handed to Adam. You'll eat bread, the ground will be cursed, [and oh, by the way, you'll be getting colds, the flu, chicken pox, measles, Ebola, and so on...]until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken.

It's ironic that apes have better immune systems than we do, yet we were supposedly the pinnacle of creation, right? Ha.

But yes, the idea that God saved him and let a bunch of other people die is pretty absurd and serves to minimize the scope of tragedy that has come from this terrible disease. It's sad, that's all.

Thank you for saying this, Jgnat.

Ebola is a threat to our entire world. I watched a program about it and it very easily can be taken all over the globe by people with no symptoms, but who are in the incubation period. These brave medical workers who have gone in to try to contain ebola are people every one of us needs to thank.
