    LDH,

    RE: Gambling.

No I didn't. This is the only place I post. What was the nature of the posts, by the way?

    Lurker, et. al.,

Earlier on this thread I went on a long rant about statistics, etc., which doesn't have much bearing on anybodies life. However, near the end, I wrote about financial - retirement planning under the subheading of 401k. Any thoughts on this folks?

    LDH,

You asked about gambling. I know that the Society considers it a sin. However, I have made an extensive study of statistics and I think if you know what you are doing and can practice moderation, it then, is another harmless form of recreation. I know that some get addicted to it, and even though I have my own addictions gambling isn't on of them. I play black jack about once or twice a year. On average over ten years I break even. My son who is better than his teacher has played about once a month for the past two years and wins about 80 dollars per visit using minimun bets. One of these days he and I are going to go with a bigger bank roll and see what we can do. When two play together, the odds are better, which we have not seriously done yet. We still could get wiped out, however, we always set a limit and never go beyond that, i.e., take a certain amount of cash and never use the credit card. LDH, those are my thoughts, but I don't know what you had in mind on the subject.

I too have tried my hand at blackjack, but as I stated at the beginning of this thread, I always felt guily. As if I'm being watched. I'm planning a Vegas trip leter this year, and I plan on it being "guilt free". I anticipate my trip to be far more enjoyable without worrying about what "The Watchtower" thinks.

    Welcome,
I don't know how I missed you There are so many newbies it is hard to keep up. It is very hard to clear away all the brainwashing we have been through. I find myself falling back into the mode of accepting words handed down from authority, even if it isn't "right". As jw women, we were really taught the only place we were of use was the ministry, even if our comments, or talks, were better then the brothers. There was many times I was admonished for basically cutting off brothers in the field service, because they sounded like bubbling idiots.
What I am having trouble with is standing up for myself and not overreacting. Or finally standing up for yourself, only to come back and apologize later. The cords are tight but as the years pass they loosen.
I too have played blackjack They opened up a casino in a nearby reservation. I spent $150 and about 8 hours the first time I went. I won some and lost some and ended up leaving with about$80 in my pocket. They only have video gambling though. I sat down at the blackjack game with $11 left. I made a $10 bet and won 10 in a row and cashed out with $110. My heart was beating sooo fast and my palms were sweating the thrill of it all was like riding a roller coaster. Needless to say I never played blackjack again, it just got me too crazy
Well thanks for posting and welcome to the board

    Conflicted,

If you go to Las Vegas, I would recommend that you get a book on the basic rules and then learn the basic strategy. Take the book home and practice. Learning to play a good game of Black Jack is easier than Euchre and not as hard as Bridge. Don't go uneducated and unskilled and decide to lose all your money like most people do. If you do lose, which can happen, at least your money will last a lot longer if you know what you are doing and you will get free drinks while you are playing.

    Mommie,

I have never won ten straight hands in a row! The odds of doing that are over a thousand to one.

    Larc,
A thousand to one? No wonder I don't play! I will never achieve that again and I know I will probably spend way to much trying to get it again So I will just have a memory of blackjack
