Yes if it was as you outlined I would be much more open to that

NO...but a great question. For the ones that think they might be open to that, the bible students are still around.

Meetings or else you are bad.

Service or else you are bad.

Parts on meetings all the time.

Being judged by other holier than you people.

Being judged by elders if I wanted a cigar or to go to a concert they didn't approve of.

    NOPE!

Nope, not to mention all these nonsense doctrines that are core of the JW beliefs. KH does not do any community work, no social services, care, eduction, self improvement and support which are detrimental for local church to survive.

Space Madness - I still believe in God - and that is precisely why I

would never go back to the Kingdom Hall and the false doctrines

of the Watchtower Society. The central core doctrine is that a special

group of men called the Governing Body decide what you will believe

right up to requiring your child to die if they forbid the medical treatment.

The doctrines are wrong, all wrong. Jesus is not an angel for one.

144,000 is a symbolic number used to prevent people from being part

of the Body of Christ, this is a major belief, thats why you don't

partake at the Memorial. Shunning people is a major controller.

No charities, no higher education, reading Watchtowers ?

What exactly do you envision these meetings woud entail without all

the books and magazines ? or the "governing body" ?

There are other places to worship, happy places.

The major problem with the JW's is the flawed theology. Once you realize that, it's of little consequence the issue of how autonomous are the congregations. First, the theology must undergo a vast overhaul (and the question of just how reliable the Bible is must be faced with honesty, not with the self-blinding mantra: "the Bible is God's inerrant word"). If some day this issue would be dealt with properly ...but I'm afraid that is only wishful thinking.

If it was just a social club with no religious ties. I would, but then it wouldn't be a KH and the members wouldn't be JWs. It would be a social club. Space you are a nice guy, you seem to be torn in which direction to go right now. I hope this thread helps you make up your mind.

    Take care, Kate xx

That basically where the Bible Students are at. Lots of the groups stay loyal to Russell and others take a different route.

Since their congregations, traditions and doctrines are all manmade, no.
