OTWO, thanks for the comprehensive lesson in business. I attempted to make the same point on one of these threads but you did so more eloquently. Did you know that MCD has even gone so far as to serve notice on "renegade" franchisers who, for instance, started selling beer with their burgers. Legally, they have actually bulldozed some of these stores back to the bare building lot when the franchiser has tried toeing the line with corporate. The contracts are rock-solid and there is no funny business. These stores needed to be an object-lesson for any others that might be considering some similar measure of independence.

I expect that if there is any backlash from congregations that try to go up against WTS, a similar fate awaits them. The "profits" are not the property of the congregations, but (rightfully?) go to the Corporation that is responsible for their existence. Let's not be naive. The days of stand-alone Kingdom Halls are over. The visits from traveling overseers will be more business oriented, with the usual sugar-coating of spiritual food to keep the r&f pumping up the great money-coffers in the sky.

Stillin, great added thought about bulldozing the rebel franchises. Fits right in with WTS. One other advantage of WTS over MCD is the ability to remove and appoint elders. Think of Menlo Park where the brothers didn't want to be forced into a financial arrangement from corporate. So they don't automatically think of shutting down a franchise if they can just do a hostile takeover.

    Scott, thanks.
