But is it really a more overt step towards cult status when you think about the adoration the organization (self) lavished on Chuck Russell over 100 years ago and then, following his death, on his "replacement", Rutherford? Perhaps it is more of a return to original form?

Before 1971, jws back then referred more to the Board of Directors who functioned as the so-called GB. The WTS has been taking steps to separate the GB from legal and financial issues. Also there were only 7 positions on the board and I believe it helped the WTS pack the GB with more than 7 members to dilute the influence of certain individuals. But they did not plan on the older anointed dying off before the end came...in a way the new anointed are stretching out the time before the end.
