My church speaks of hell as simply a 'separation from God.' Personally I don't know what it is or how literally the references to fiery hell in the bible should be taken. Im not worried about it and i believe God is merciful. For me, those who call down judgment to hell on others are just as guilty of sin, by their self righteousness, as whoever they are judging. -

It doesn't matter if it is fire or eternal conscious separation.
That's like excusing an abusive husband because he never hit his wife he just tortured her mentally.
All concepts of eternal torture are sick and supporting a church that teaches it is morally reprehensible.
