While a few Elders may lurk to out people, most simply do not have the time or the motivation to do so. On the other hand, if one had suspicions already about someone, or they were outed to an elder by someone else, a bored elder might start poking around to see what evidence is out there.

But what about the majority of lurking Elders? They may just lurk for the same reason that I do. Curiosity. Im an active MS. I lurked at first to see the other side of the argument. How might a "mentally diseased apostate" try and trip me up? lol on mentally diseased part, please dont get offended.

After that, I got hooked on seeing reactions to Boe letters even before they were read in our cong. In our cong its always "oh this is a great change" But maybe its not...

Lurking here has had at least one other benefit. I have become less black and white in dealing with people. Instead of running to my elders when i figured out an aquaintance of mine was turning "apostate", I was able to ignore it with the attitude of "to each his own".

I was able to talk candidly, without judging him. It was kind of nice to already know what he was talking about when he brought up the "2 witness rule".

The Facebook thing is totally understandable. Even more so now that jw are getting accounts on the site, I'm just tempted to unfriend all of them.

I can give 2 examples of this

(1)I had an bethel elder admit to me that he used a pseudonym to scope out the young ones face bookes.

(2)I accepted a friends request from an elder on face book (I was quite active at the time). Shortly there after I found out his motivations. So he could prepare a local needs talk about those who are on face book. I was so in sensed by this I went home to delete him, as I felt he totally invaded my privacy (BTW I had nothing to hide, and had stated my dubbie status on F/B). He had been around all the young ones sending friends requests. At the time I was furious at what he done because there would of been no way I would of accepted if I knew what he was up to. Now I just feel sorry for the guy.

Apparently they are....THIS IS CALLED STALKING! !

Stalking is unwanted or obsessive attention by an individual or group toward another person. Stalking behaviors are related toharassment and intimidation and may include following the victim in person or monitoring them.

Some JWs are particularly noxious and they include elders. They will likely lurk on here to specifically find ones they can punish, or turn into the elders for punishment. Some JWs get a thrill out of it, they are not doing it out of genuine concern.

I cannot imagine what they think they will achieve by outing someone, I suppose it is the ridiculous concept of "keeping the congregation clean", they should be more concerned about the JW's who are accessing Porn.

If you don't wish to be outed, don't post too many personal details, and certainly no details that apply uniquely to you. Stick in the odd red-herring too.

I pose on here as someone who loves beer, and yet Cantleave will tell you I'm teetotal......................... maybe.

I'm only lurking to get to some truth. Not to catch anybody.
