In reality, considering that CT Russell did not learn about Jesus' alleged return in 1874 until 1876, he missed the boat by two years, so could not be the 'slave' that was awaiting his master's return.

Additionally, since the first issue of WT was not published until 1879, it could be argued that NH Barbour was the "faithful slave", as he was aware of the 1874 date prior to Russell, and, in fact, was the one who convinced Russell of that date. Russell was 5 years too late by the time he began publishing the Watchtower. So much for being ready and watching...

Of course, Barbour learned this chronology from the Millerites/Adventists, so they too could be the "faithful slave"...

The Adventists, when 1874 failed as Jesus visible return, switched gears and said Jesus DID return in 1874....invisibly. They would not admit their mistake. In 1914, WT did the same thing...when Armageddon, or anything else, did not materialize as they falsely prophesied, they claimed everything they predicted DID come true...it just occurred invisibly.

It's all utter nonsense and a case of the blind leading the blind into a pit....

The more one thinks about the situation with C T Russell, one might conclude that

he himself wanted to be the one who would distribute the Grand all important message to humanity

that Christ has finally returned, something he could use to prop up his ego and self identity.

    .

Well he had the money to accomplish this feat by creating his own publishing house.

A means to attract attention to maybe a man who needed something to nourish his own appealing ego and public notoriety.

This is the deception that has gone on forcenturies. Jesus palinly spoke to those people standing right in front of him he would return int heir lifetime and he did. It was a spiritual event and all things have been fulfilled. People needto discern between the use of the words"we" "us" "you" in the holy scriputres. THey were all watingto be delivered form the destruction Messiah was talking about which wa snot the end of the world but the destruction of the old physical covenant culminating in the destruction of jerusalem and the temple in 70AD just as he had said. The symbolic metaphors used by jews in those days did not mean"the whole earth" but the jewish world etc."Truly i tellYOU (THE FIRST CENTURY FAITHFUL ONES STANDING RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM ) some of you still be alive when i return in my kingdom. That happened in the 1st century, one generation just as Messiah said it would. He came back for his chosen ones and the old testament prophets in that 1st century. He rules as king and dwells within the hearts of all beleivers who truly love him.Itis invisible, not made with human hands or bricks and mortar and is freely available to any person. You cannot find it in a church building, ideology, theology. But the only way is to go to him alone
