This is what happens when you tamper with the truth in an attempt to keep salvation from mankind. You get these confusing doctrines that defy science, and then you need to waste huge amounts of resources enforcing the bad doctrines. The whole LIE-ble is full of this rubbish, and this is only the beginning. Creating a mess about day and night--science and common sense says that the sun and the planets were formed at the same time, when the sun became a star. Gravity did that work. The planets were formed by rocky debris that clumped, gravity and collisions forcing them together. Gas giants formed when gravity pulled some of the gas into planets not big enough to ignite into stars. Then you had the Kuiper belt that had ice and water, forming comets that slammed into the inner planets. The moon was the result of a planetary impact, which formed much later.

Other rubbish comes with the account of the flood. How are you to push land mass down with water? Anyone in science knows that lighter water cannot displace heavier rock mass, except if you have kilometers of thickness of ice on dry land. I don't think the flood was in the form of ice. Global flood some 4,400 years ago, my eye. And was Noah part white, part Asian, and part black? If so, then why did one of his sons come out all white, one all black, and one all Asian? It just doesn't work that way--if one is race mixed, the children are going to be race mixed.

We can also rip apart how a strong wind can push water apart without pushing any humans attempting to cross said water with it. How could joke-hova use a stiff breeze to push the water apart? If that was possible, any humans or horses trying to cross would also be blown away. Obviously that did not happen. If the wind was coming from their back, Israelite and Egyptian alike would have been blown to the other side, and Israel would not have gotten away. Not to mention it would have to be a very strong hurricane force wind. Try walking in a category 4 or 5 hurricane--that is the magnitude of what would be needed.

This is what happens when you impose a fib designed to replace the Egyptian creation account. The Egyptian creation was never meant to be taken literally but was instead a road map to the soul. And so was all the 18 Pagan Gods hung from a cross or tree--from which Jesus was stolen. Jesus is actually the representation of personal empowerment that was intended to suck the energy away from the soul into the mass parasite that is determined to enslave mankind. And, in order to create this, you need to fib. When you fib, science can easily prove the lie wrong. Thus, xians always strive to suppress or corrupt science. Anyone that has half a brain can figure this out. We all know the sun came first, the earth next (from debris clumping together), then the moon from an impact. The LIE-ble has to lie in order to get people to give their energy to enslave the world--never mind logic.

It appears that one the writers has been reading answers in genesis.

    Quote:
"The Bible frequently uses the term “day” to designate various periods of time.
In some cases these periods are of an unspecified length.
The account of creation found in the Bible book of Genesis is one example of this .

So this is a very clear statement, that also the 7th day (quiet period) is a period of "unspecified length".
No longer: "6000 years of human history have been completed"

    jws”:

“And God went on to make the two great luminaries, the greater luminary for dominating the day and the lesser luminary for dominating the night, and also the stars. Thus God put them in the expanse of the heavens to shine upon the earth . . .” – (Genesis 1:16, 17)

When the Bible says that God “went on to make” the two “luminaries” of the sun and moon and to “put them” in the expanse of the heavens on the “fourth day,” it doesn’t mean to imply that the very beginning of the formation of our sun and moon occurred on the fourth creative day but, rather, that the fourth day included the culmination of the existence of our sun and moon in relation to our earth as would be observable in that specific location and at that time.

The age of our earth is extremely short when compared to that of our solar system and galaxy, not to mention the entire universe. The events – or processes – culminating in the state of our earth and that which occupies it as observable today, being as extremely long as they may appear relative to the human lifespan, are still actually quite astronomically short in comparison to the events/processes involved to complete the formation of the celestial components of our universe.

Thus it is only logical to realize that the formation of our sun, earth, and moon as a star, planet, and satellite (respectively) – the multi-phased ‘creation of the heavens and the earth’ – had already been completed much, much earlier than any of the relatively very recent events/processes pertaining to the life forms on, and certainly the metrological and geological features of, our planet as would be observable by the fourth creative period, or “day.” The creative “days,” or “tasks” of God, in Genesis would obviously happen concurrently; i.e., they would not have to be in series with one absolutely completed before the next could commence.

As regards the moon being considered a “luminary,” I believe that would be a correct term because light does emanate from the moon, and it is irrelevant in this context as to whether or not that light originates from the moon. A “luminary” is something which illuminates, which could be something providing the light by emission or reflection. (The essence is that which is observed here on earth – i.e., light is light!)

“ ‘. . . scientific conclusions about the age of the universe.’ If the bible and science don’t conflict, you’d be talking ‘days’ in the range of >2 billion years/day, not ‘thousands.’ That’s billion with a B.”

You’re absolutely true on that one!

“Exodus 20:11, ‘For in six days Jehovah made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and he began to rest on the seventh day.’ And Exodus 31:17, it says, ‘for in six days Jehovah made the heavens and the earth and on the seventh day he rested and refreshed himself.’ ”

Again, the original Hebrew word (“yohm”) translated “day” has the meaning of a 24‑hour day but also that of a period, or era, with a varying or indeterminate length. And considering the astronomical differences in these two meanings within a literal and scientific context, as outlined above, it would be totally unreasonable and illogical to impose a literal 24‑hour length to the “days” of creation.

Therefore, in this particular regard, I believe that the Watchtower’s position in the March 2014 Awake! to which you referred above would be the logical interpretation. (Although, I personally incline toward what “Billy the Ex-Beth elite” wrote above concerning the book of Genesis itself as a whole: “Genesis is clearly a variety of legends . . .” – i.e., that the rest of that book is not exactly plausible.)
