They Society wanted these people in China to put a good word for them to legalize the work in the Communist land. The officials said, they just couldn't get the officials to do that but would put a good word for them anyway.

The sh*t these people dream up!

    Minimus,

Don't you have more details? I don't understand why the Chinese government would ask Bethel for help with computers.

I took it to mean that the Chinese brothers (Witnesses) asked for help with their computers.

That would be difficult. China does not have Google or Twitter. Instead they have Sina Weibo.

China wants Microsoft to extend Windows XP support past April 8th

Data from StatCounter shows that Windows XP is still used by over 50 percent of all PCs in China.

In just over four months, Microsoft is scheduled to stop supporting Windows XP after over 12 years. Now it appears the government of China would like for the company to reconsider its support cut off date of April 8th.

In a report on the Chinese language TechWeb site, Yan Xiaohong, deputy director of China’s National Copyright Administration, is quoted as saying that the shut down of Windows XP support could lead to more security threats and increased use of pirated software. He stated, "These practices affect the smooth operations of genuine software in China."

The translated article does not make clear if the government of China has sent a formal request to Microsoft to extend the life of Windows XP. In November, Microsoft cut the price of Windows 8 in China down to the equivalent of just $49 for a limited time, in order to encourage PC users in that country to upgrade to the new OS.

According to data from StatCounter, over half of China's PCs still use Windows XP. Windows 7 is used by about a third of PCs in that country but Microsoft no longer sells a version of that OS in China.

Do the Bethelites possess special knowledge of computers?

God's chosen people can become experts in anything. Remember how Jehovah bestowed special knowledge to the craftsmen when building the Ark of the Covenant? Well, clearly God wants the Chinese to become his Witnesses so it's hardly inconceivable that he would bestow upon a few Bethelites the internationally sought after skills of computer geekery.

Archaeological excavation near Persepolis in the southern Iranian province of Fars

    Posted: 18 Dec 2013 12:14 AM PST

TEHRAN – The ruins of a huge building, which is surmised to be a temple constructed during the reign of Cyrus the Great, has been unearthed during an archaeological excavation near Persepolis in the southern Iranian province of Fars. “During the excavation, which was carried out by a team of Iranian and Italian archaeologists in the ancient city of Parsa on the perimeter of Persepolis, an amazing structure that dates back to the early days of the Achaemenid era was discovered,” Alireza Asgari Chaverdi, the Iranian director of the team, told the Persian service of CHN on Tuesday . “Thousands of glazed bricks have been used in the construction of the building, which covers at least an area of 33x33 meters,” he added. He said, “The bricks bear bas-reliefs of the mythical animal motifs of Persia and Mesopotamia, most of which are similar to those that were used on the Ishtar Gate (the eighth gate to the inner city) of Babylon in Mesopotamia. “An Akkadian-Babylonian cuneiform inscription has also been excavated. The designs and skills used to embellish the bricks, the widespread use of tar in the construction of the building, the use of various colors and mythical motifs such as Mushussu, a snake-dragon shaped symbol of Marduk (the chief of the Babylonian deities), and various lotus designs, all show that the structure was built during the reign of Cyrus the Great. “Cyrus conquered Babylonia in 539 BC. Babylonian priests chose Marduk, which also was the god of the sky and the Earth during the Neo-Babylonian Empire. When Cyrus conquered Babylonia, Marduk was the most influential deity in Mesopotamia. “According to archaeologists, groups of Babylonian priests and artisans were… taken to this region after the conquest of Babylonia by Cyrus, and he… allowed them to build a structure in the region where the ideological source of the Achaemenids was located. The building was constructed by Babylonian artisans with the same religious designs they used to create the mythical symbols like Mushussu.” Asgari Chaverdi said that this discovery raises new questions about the religious outlook in Achaemenid society. “Darius I came to power in 521 BC. Many religious changes occurred during his reign until Artaxerxes I was crowned as king. Now the question is whether the Achaemenids tolerated the community of Babylonian priests during the reign of Darius I or not,” he stated. Professor Pierfrancesco Callieri of the University of Bologna and a number of his colleagues are also members of the team of archaeologists excavating the site. The excavation, which has been in progress since late September, will come to an end in a few days. [email protected]

OUR JW work in China now LEGALLY RECOGNIZED

    Posted: 18 Dec 2013 12:03 AM PST

We had Brother Petit give our talk today. He lives locally, but was a missionary in Japan for years and one of his sons still serves at Bethel. He told us an interesting experience/account that he just heard from his son. It was this: You know our new printing presses that print our magazines at that astronomical rate (like 200K an hour) and are at the Japan, Canada and German branches, well the Chinese government has one too. Theirs broke. They called the German company that made the press and found out that the company had gone out of business and couldn't provide any technical support. They suggested that the JWs in Japan had a printer and might be able to help. So, the Chinese government called the Branch in Japan and 3 brothers went to China to lend a hand. Of course, they knew what was wrong and fixed it. The Chinese government was so impressed and grateful they said they wanted to do something for the brothers. The brothers said they could legalize JW to organize freely in China. The Chinese government said, of course, that it couldn't do that because by law the heads of all national organizations had to be appointed by the communist party. BUT, they said, they would lift the ban on JW.org. WHAT?!?! Yes, now JW.ORG is legal in China. I instantly started crying and wanted to break out clapping. How fantastic is that? I wonder who broke that press... [email protected]
