Most modern historians follow either the older chronologies established by William F. Albright or Edwin R. Thiele, or the newer chronologies of Gershon Galil and Kenneth Kitchen. All dates are BCE.

The five non-JW sources of chronolgy are similar, especially consistent from Manasseh through Zedekiah. Why is the Watchtower so different? Where do they get their dates? What historical references do they use?

You would think that this would at least make a thinking JW want a reasonable answer.

Thinking JW is usually an oxymoron; they are a very rare breed.

Those individuals that are "Thinking JWs" quickly become apostates and either leave or are DF'd summarily.

mindnumbed : Thats an excellent find , the five non-jw sources of chronology are all in the ballpark catergory of acceptance , whereas the Watchtower dates are so far out of left field you really have to wonder. Why is it so?

The majority of JWS are told what to believe and are stridently indoctrinated on those beliefs, thats why there is little critical analysis of doctrines.

Thats the jest of most religions, your forced to believe certain things by self designated spiritual seers, if you don't comply

exactly to whats being presented by these designated men your pointed out to be evil, demeaned and at times physically and

psychologically harmed. 607 BCE by the WTS. is one of the biggest doctrinal frauds of this religious publishing house.

So, it's not just 607 that the WTS is at odds with modern historians but the whole of the kings of Israel chronology. How do they get away with this? What sources do they use?

  • konceptual99

Just done a quick Google seach and there are lots of different websites that refer to 997 being the ascension date for Rehaboam. Does anyone know of any sites that explain the difference between the two chronologies?

  • DATA-DOG
    DATA-DOG

What sources do they use?!? WHAT SOURCES??!! The foundation of their dates was laid by CTR, a non-FDS domestic. Instead of the dates being scrapped by Rutherford, they simply piled on more rubble. Now their " sources " are their own books and the Watchtower magazines. How do you confirm their teachings? You check their writings. Unless new light is released, and then you ignore their writings. It's a great system for them.

Just bumping in case anyone has a chance to comment on why there are numerous sites on the net that refer to a date of 997BCE for Rehaboam's ascension?

  • Jeffro
    Jeffro

The reason for the 20-year gap during the Neo-Babylonian period is becaue of their beliefs about 607, but there is more going on with their alternative chronology for the kings of Judah and Israel, which has an increasing discrepancy the further back you go.

Please see here for more information about how and why the JW chronology is manipulated to suit their beliefs.

The reason is similar to that of JWs (see link above), relating to biblical literalism overriding overlapping reigns.
