In fact, it would seem that Christianity was from the VERY BEGINNING CATHOLIC... hmmmmm, how they FAIL when it comes to history...

"The earliest evidence of the use of the term Catholic Church is the Letter to the Smyrnaeans that Ignatius of Antioch wrote in about 107 to Christians in Smyrna. Exhorting Christians to remain closely united with their bishop, he wrote: "Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude [of the people] also be; even as, wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church."[9][10] Numerous other early writers including Cyril of Jerusalem (c. 315-386), Augustine of Hippo (354-430) and others further developed the use of the term "catholic" in relation to Christianity."

The term "catholic" means "universal." In the so-called Apostles' Creed, it's used in verse 9 to represent the universal Christian faith, and the creed is used in Baptist and Methodist churches. My grandmother, a Southern Baptist, would recite the creed up to that point and then go silent rather than utter those hated words. Even though it's in lower case, she just couldn't bring herself to say it; it sounded too much like the upper case term!

The Apostles' Creed is as follows:

    1. I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:

    2. And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:

    3. Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary:

    4. Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried: He descended into hell:

    5. The third day he rose again from the dead:

    6. He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:

    7. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead:

    8. I believe in the Holy Ghost:

    9. I believe in the holy catholic church : the communion of saints:

    10. The forgiveness of sins:

    11. The resurrection of the body:

    12. And the life everlasting. Amen.

Some people confabulate the catholic church with the Roman catholic church, which is a breakaway sect. There are plenty of catholics in Europe, Asia and the middle east who do not answer to Rome.

The JWs like to bash Christians because they want to undermine the long Christian history and cover over the fact that their little sect is a recent invention and has no connection with historic Christianity.

Catholics are not christian. Its name and purpose is to be the universal church that controls all others.

    mP:

All christians lie about their past. How many christian churches read or discuss what the dead sea scrolls contain. The anser is none, because they dont want the rank and dumb to know the truth about their origins.

The wt includes ignatius as part of the christian congregation.

    *** it-2 p. 93 John, Good News According to ***
The Gospel of John was accepted as canonical by the early Christian congregation. It appears in nearly all the ancient catalogs, being there accepted without query as authentic. The epistles of Ignatius of Antioch (c. 110 C.E.) contain clear traces of his use of John’s Gospel,

    *** w09 7/1 p. 28 The Apostolic Fathers—Truly Apostolic? ***
The expression “Apostolic Fathers” has been applied to religious writers who may have known one of Jesus’ apostles or may have been taught by disciples who learned from the apostles. Generally, these men lived from the close of the first century C.E. on into the middle of the second century. Among them were Clement of Rome, Ignatius of Antioch,

The wt has hung itself, again. Since its quite clear that the catholic was one of the original christianities, it is also clear that the wt is apostate.

Why is the WT trusting Clement the cousin of Emperor Vespasian ? Can we smell a family conspiracy ?

Go read the history of the first catholic saints. Practically half Vespasians family were made into saints, including his sister. The 2nd pope, Pope Clement was his cousin. Constantine the man who made Christianity a state religion was also a Flavian. Ever wonder why peter went to Rome ? It makes no sense.
