Basically, it's a hope for goodness to survive in a world with
wickedness and crime. I'd avoid showing no better interpre-
tation ability than a fundamentalist conservative (like Paul
Broun), the sort of thing that led Higgs to once refer to
Hitchens as a fundamentalist atheist. It's kind of hard to
sympathize with an atheist worried about people killed in a
literal great flood, for example--it's more puzzling.

tiki: my thing about the noah and ark story is basically - there is most assuredly an ark that fits the description up there in turkey in the ararat region....and folklore of just about every culture has a flood story..........it came from somewhere..something.....

Other cultures' cataclysmic flood stories do nothing to verify the Noah flood story other than confirming that (localized) cataclysmic floods happen from time to time. If a civilization lives near a river or sea, it'll likely have its own ancient flood story.

The boat-shaped structure found in the Ararat region is a huge chunk of stone carved out by natural geological processes. In any case, one has to wonder why Noah and subsequent generations would just let all that solid, waterproofed wood sit there and slowly rot forever rather than dismantle it and reuse it.

Cagefighter: Actually there are 13 lunars in a year.

Actually, there are neither 12 nor 13 lunar months in a solar year. There are 12 lunar months and 11 days in a solar year.

Tropical flora underneath the ice pack at Antartica proves the flood.

By the way, God closed the door to the ark some 7 days before the rains began. There was a water canopy around the earth that was "solid" and that means solid, clear ice. So the earth was like a beautiful round planet encased in an ice bubble. Afer the ark door was shut, the ice canopy was superheated and converted to thick rain clouds, thus it was totally dark when the rains started. Any lamps or torches, likely out in the open were quickly extinguished, so those people died in the dark.

But once it started raining, Moses was vindicated, if only for a few moments before their drowning.

Also, I think we have to consider the materialized angels. How do you kill an angel? How do you force them to dematerialize?

But this is also where I believe in "evolution." Clearly God had to cause the animals to "evolve" and develop new traits to adapt to a world that now had seasons and rains. Birds had to evolve so that they could migrate. Meat-eating animals had to learn to hunt, etc. It's possible a couple of new, supplemental species were developed for the new environment. The Bible is not specific.

NOAH'S DRUNKEN EPISODE: Noah's episode with drunkeness suggests he had a reaction to some substance in the wine and besides being drunk, he had spasms. His bed covering was toss off him and he was undergoing an unvoluntary erection and orgasm. That is what Ham witnessed and wanted his two brothers to see. It wasn't that his father was simply naked. The older brothers refused and ordered him to cover their father. When he didn't, they walked in backwards to cover him and not gaze upon his "nakedness", that is, his erection.

We know from later times that this was the reaction temple prostitutes created in their suitors who had involuntary orgasms while asleep. But this likely was a very addictive aphrodesiac as it was apparently used for sexual pleasures in Sodom and Gomorrah. Thus under the new climate a fungus was the likely culprit that grew on the grapes that caused this reaction and later was perfected to be used in "mixed wine" as an adjunct to temple prostitution.

This helps us understand how Lot's two daughters knew quite well in advance they could get semen from their father while he was sleep. This "mixed wine" had that effect. It made the person unconscious and eventually they developed an erection followed by orgasm. So each daugher, in turn, gave their father this wine and got pregnant by him, without him knowing anything about it.

Greek sources depicting aspects of "the Mysteries" show this spore or fungus was grown on bread and then mixed in the wine. So Noah's spastic and erotic reaction to the wine wasn't really due to the wine, but a fungus that must have gotten into the wine mix and later used as an aphrodesiac in later times.

    So now you know!

SILLY P.S. I was going to tell you that if you wanted to sample some of the "mixed wine" and have a fantastic orgasm in your sleep, I had some available for $100 a pop, just send the money and a SASE. But that's just my fantasy of being a "phramacist" working overtime!! It's possible the fungus triggered incredibly erotic dreams which then resulted in the spontaneous orgasm!

If the account was true…there wouldn’t be a herbivore left on the entire planet. Because A)There were no plants and B)They’d have all been eaten by the carnivores.

Larsinger, that's just not possible. The canopy theory has been refuted. Plus the bible itself makes claims that would make a canopy impossible. Not to mention the pressure on the earth that would be required to hold the canopy in place. Plus how could early humans see the stars and the sun through ice or water canopy? This happens before Noah's part in the story.

Then God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years; and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth"; and it was so. And God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; He made the stars also. And God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good. (Genesis 1:14-18)

The bible also says that the waters receded and were dried by the wind. If all that water fell upon the earth where exactly did the water go? There wouldn't be room for it to recede.

I could care less about suggestions on whether or not Noah drank wine with fungus that made him aroused. To think that Lot had the same thing happen is just silly. Don't even get me started on the Lot story.

Just as the Sumerians knew their sars from their sosses, the Genesis writer knew his years from his months.

Check out the Sumerian king list. Note the drastic reduction in regnal years after the Flood and how, over time as the list progresses, regnal year lengths become more sensible. Isn't this a similar phenomenon with the Genesis reckoning of people's life spans?

    Good one Cofty

Social psychopaths aren't attracted or interested in science because it doesn't uplift their own personal perception of themselves.

Religion on the other hand can.

So thats why we have Christ Larsinger58 the holy almighty one ... Amen

There are many more ancient stories of a "flood" (Gilgamesh etc). Archiologists theory is that there was a big flood in that area (the part of the "world/earth" they were familiar with) and it was orally passed down thru other non-Noah (if he ever existed) cultures. The moral of this story is "be good or God will kill you.......and your little dog too"!
