Wow. This interesting admission by the Society could also be applied to any number of highly disputable and downright dubious teachings/policies of the Society where there is absolutely no "specific scriptural basis" for asserting a dogmatic viewpoint. Eg, birthdays, smoking, higher education, etc.

Does that include the powerfully simple parable of the faithful and discreet slave? Of course not! To see this as the simple parable it so obviously is would leave the Governing Body bereft of a Scriptural basis for their leadership and claims to be the only true channel for God. Oops.
Some types and their dubious antitypes must remain in place - otherwise the Watchtower house of cards collapses.

That's not the best example Steve2. Matt 24:45-47 is not just a 'simple parable' only. There are prophetic elements to Matt 24:45-47. Jesus identified a future subset group (basically, teachers substituting for him) that would be "feeding" a larger group (broader body of disciples) before the master's return. It's only the Watchtower Society's egocentric and eisegesistic application that is so obviously wrong. -

What is amazing is how types and antitypes led to serious doctrinal changes and exclusivism. A true Christian will see Christ in Cyrus and in all Gentiles who hunger and thirst after righteousness, thus negating the need to judge the religions of others. It is sad to see it work a closing of minds. -

Maybe this phrase types/ antitypes is commen in english.
In my language it is not and 99 % of people have not heard of it and have no idea what it means.
They should have said they will not try to give complicate significance to any parable or metaphor of the bible. And that all the parables or metaphor they gave special significance to is not valid anymore - like the faithful and descreet slave, the little flock and other sheep, not keeping birthdays, not voting etc!

Called my mother today not intending to talk about anything of a religious nature. I try to keep the peace by not getting into TTATT with her. All that went out the window when she started gushing about how wonderful the May Watchtower study articles were. She said she is so appreciative of how the GB are now simplifying scriptural teachings so that everyone can easily understand. She went on to say that one of the brighter sisters in her hall made a comment at the meeting saying " we simply dug too deep and tried to put too much meaning to scriptures to the point where no one could understand the application of the numerous types and ant-types. Now lovingly, the GB are doing away with that."
It's unbelievable how the GB can take a multitude of wrong application of scriptures and spin it so the sheep just lap it right up and glorify the GB even more. Isn't it wonderful how wrong we were? isn't it wonderful how they are simplifying scriptural understandings so that we can understand? Sigh.
I think the very heart of the problem is they dug too deep to try and fit scripture into their doctrines. Its too bad they don't realize that they dug too deep, hit a sewer line and are being blinded by all the isht that is hitting them in the face.
