I'll just say that the question could also be posed on the "entrance" side of Jesus-belief: Some folks start believing in Jesus because they're impressed by someone preaching about him. So it can probably work in reverse, as well.
Absolutely, it can... and does... work in the reverse as well. Hence, a loss of faith, sometimes, because of what it was built upon.
That particular discussion tends to deteriorate pretty quick though ;)

Tec, agreed. That discussion does deteriote, mainly due to the lack or fact and accusations that people were following the wrong thing with the accusers claiming to have the REAL knowledge that is just as useless as the old information. C'est la vie.
