So tell us what it was, then--was it just YOUR OPINION?

Question for the "spokesmen" otherwise known as Jehovah's Witness' Governing Body.

How shall we identify the already published teaching which is now obsolete, adjusted, corrected and NOT TO BE USED for current teaching?

I know you prefer to slough it off as Old Light because there is still "Light" in that phrase. But, a close examination would prove that incorrect too.

For example, when J.F.Rutherford gave a series of sermons followed by publication and dissemination of his MILLIONS NOW LIVING WILL NEVER DIE message it was thought important enough to spread around the entire world!

Millions Now Living Will Never Die went hand in hand with identifying 1925 as an all important date of prophetic significance: the resurrection of faithful men of old!

Today's current teachings have changed all that, nullified it, made it obsolete and unworthy of consideration by teachers or students of the bible.

So, tell us WHAT IT WAS, then---was it just OPINION? Was it a human mistake wrongly presented as Jehovah's teaching? Was it speculation, guesswork, conjecture? Was it nonsense start to finish?

And while we are asking questions...

Do you have any words of wisdom explaining why Jehovah approved wrong teaching?

And if Jehovah did not approve....what business did Rutherford or the Watchtower Society have convincing so many sheeplike ones it was THE TRUTH?

Is there any personal liability for false teaching?

Even though Rutherford's teaching was emphatically proved an error---why did the Watchtower continue to break off a piece of it and use for decades AS THOUGH it were prophetic truth? I'm talking about the now famous failed "generation" teaching that died a horrible, slow death!

WHAT DO WE CALL OLD WATCHTOWER TEACHINGS THAT WERE WRONG?

IF THEY WEREN'T CORRECT BUT WERE BELIEVED AND TAUGHT DOOR TO DOOR does that make the door to door ministry a WASTE of time?

Please, tell us--enlighten us--correct us and adjust our thinking LIKE YOURS. Say something---anything, like Ghostbusters we're ready to believe you!

    If it wasn't False Prophecy...

    if it wasn't a Lie...

if it was eager enthusiasm gone off the rails misidentified.......

ARE YOU WILLING TO LABEL CURRENT TEACHING as to what per cent is the same guesswork vs Jehovah's directing His organization?

    Is it 90/10

    Is it 80/20

    Is it 70/30

    Is it 60/40

    Is it 50/50

Or will it all end up 0/0 JUST LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE YOU'VE EVER PRINTED?

Imagine a fork used for sipping soup and you are imagining Watchtower teaching as Jehovah's only true organization on earth today.

You think you're going to be fed and it all slips away just as you get it to your mouth.

Oh sure....there is a sort of "taste" of nutrition barely clinging to the tines.....

But, you never get truly fed...and have to keep lifting it over and over until the bowl is cold and the soup just simply GOES BAD!

    Jehovah corrects them!

    Next bowl is served.

    Same fork!

    Same result!

Faithful and Discreet Slave must 1.Feed the domestic 2.At the proper time in order to truly identify themselves as True.

What they've served has never been food.

The time identified as significant was always wrong.

    The GB failed both tests!

They are NOT faithful and seldom discreet. They serve nonsense as though it were urgent. It never has been!

    FAIL!

Duh, it was consensus. Consensus decision making is 97% improved over the individual.

This thread highlights just what a thought-stopper the phrase "old light" has become among JWs.

I have asked JWs questions similar to the ones Terry posed in the OP... to no effect.

They insist on switching topics so they can bash the trinity, war, hellfire...

... anything but confront the mountain of evidence that the GB does not and never has been God's spokesman.

It takes intellectual skill to fully take a cherished belief to its logical conclusion. I would say that phrases such as "That's just old light - we no longer believe that" allow those of below average to average intellectual ability to disengage from further discussion because they literally become bamboozled and emotionally upset when you attempt to get them to logically follow through on their answers. At some stage, their brain fades and it has little to do with personal wilfulness and more to do with the ability to reason at a more complex level.

I do not wish to defend the witnesses, yet their chronic inability to apply reason to their cherished phrases is not theirs alone - and nor is it exclusive to cults; it is endemic among people who find fundamentalist belief systems satisfactory and soothing. Those systems work far,far better with followers of below to average intellectual ability, less well to those who have above average to "superior" intellectual functioning.

It is repugnant to me that something completely discredited can be viewed as useful to Jehovah.

"This is what is going to happen and this is when..." cannot pass the sniff test when it falls flat and has to be discarded.

You'd think Jehovah was trying to invent an airplane that could fly and all those old light pronouncements were just

prototypes that crashed along the way so that we could have jet airliners today!

"If you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things. Why not? Because all the evidence in fulfillment of Bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years. Of the generation that observed the beginning of the 'last days' in 1914, Jesus foretold:'This generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur.' Therefore, as a young person, you will never fulfill any career that this system offers."

This wasn't an opinion. It was sheer deceit for the purpose of instilling urgency into Watchtower followers like my parents were/are.

Terry, you are asking all the right questions,

but if you are in.....as soon as you ask them you are out......once you are out, they don't have to answer.....

oh, you could ask before you are in.....but you probably don't know enough about it to ask the right questions & they won't answer

if you are born in, you NEVER have the option of asking questions

i would love to get some answers from just 1 high up person, or GB member. I think I would actually love to find some evil genius in there somewhere, someone who has planned all this & has secret bank accounts stashed with millions!!!!

sadly I suspect it's like steve2 said, just people with below average intelligence, following mindlessly, hence that hatred of education & worldly association.

" Similarly, any food to which whole blood or even some blood fraction has been added should not be eaten." ___Reasoning book page 71

    NEW LIGHT

" As for the various fractions derived from those ( Blood ) componets and products that contain such fractions, the Bible does not comment on these."________2006 August Awake page 11-12

Clearly a consensus based on opinions that were not always bible based

    Hello there Ding,

On page 136 in the Reasoning Book, under False Prophets

is a good example of what you speak of

They admit to the errors in what they have taught

and then flip the script to the errors of christendom and

compare WTS mistakes as relatively " minor mistakes "

    .
