Has the GB ever explained how they receive "new light" from Jehovah?

They've claimed fairly recently that holy spirit helps them to understand "things not previously understood", and then they print it and pass it on. Beyond that, not much else to say.

In other words, they look at stuff that comes in from people's letters, or one GB member has an idea, they bat it around on Wednesday, probably not reading too many scriptures about it, then they send a note to the Writing Department to make up some stuff about it and couch the new idea somewhere around paragraphs 10-15, when the audience is at the height of sleepy/zombie state. You can pretty much say anything by paragraph 15. "Jesus is God" would go unnoticed.

We were told at an elders school that they just discuss the ideas of the G B members. They kick it around, pick it to pieces, pray about it, then put it on ice for a while to avoid a hasty decision. After a bit they pull it out, discuss it and pray again.

At my work, I am part of a Joint Leadership Team made up of heads from different disciplines. That's basically the way we come to decisions, minus the prayer part. Maybe I should recommend we incorporate Jehovah prayers in our decisions, then we can possibly be just as sucessful as the WTS Governing Body in business decisions.

Somebody comes up with an idea, they talk about it, say a prayer then vote. If they get a two-third majority it gets passed. If somebody gets up to go to the little boys' room and misses out on the voting they may not get the two thirds majority so they put it on hold and blow the dust off the idea a few years later....

Exactly...The Watchtower is just another business. It's seasoned with some so-called 'religious' notions, but at the end of the day, it is a business. A business concerned about its reputation, staying in business, and continuing to thrive. It makes decisions and executes them like many other businesses would, just with some Kool-Aid dispensers instead of water ones sprinkled throughout the company's properties.

    Post-it notes on the refrigerator!

Actually, I think for many years now it has been REaction rather than action which initiates changes.

Keep in mind thousands of letters and phone calls consisting of problems, outbursts, queries, complaints, and speculations are the ONLY contact the GB has with their "audience".

Trends are like waves of water in the ocean.

Every once and awhile a Tsunami arrives and nobody can ignore the implications!

Before the 1975 debacle it was Fred Franz who was the little engine that could.

You know the Zig Ziglar story about the little girl who found a pile of horseshit and she just started giggling as she dug into it searchingly?

She was looking for the pony, right?

With Fred Franz you could give him a pony and when he finished giggling there was ONLY the horse shit.

In the first century, Christians had miraculous operations of Jehovah’s holy spirit in some matters of judgment, such as in the judgment of Ananias and Sapphira. (Acts 5:1-11; 1 Cor. 12:4-11) After miraculous gifts of the spirit ceased with the death of the apostles, Christians have not expected direct miraculous indications from heaven as to how a matter should be decided.
"Those who make up the one true Christian organization today do not have angelic revelations or divine inspiration. But they do have the inspired Holy Scriptures, which contain revelations of God's thinking and will." Jehovah's Witnesses - Proclaimers of God's Kingdom (1993) p.708

"....they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall
    into the ditch."
    (Matthew 15)

    ---------------------------------

The ancient church had one thing that the Jehovah's Witnesses don't have, and that is apostolic authority. Jesus imbued His church with this authority anciently and He personally laid His hands on each apostle and ordained them with the authority and keys to effectively act in His name. This authority included that to cast out devils, baptize by water, confer the gift of the Holy Spirit, bind in Heaven and Earth and to ordain church officers. It also gave them the right to speak and act in God's name without taking upon themselves that honor and being self appointed.

God has never had a church on Earth without the gift of revelation and authority being conferred from On High. The General Body has never had a revelation (as noted above), has never been given authority, does not have the authority to bind on Heaven or Earth, does not have authority to establish congregations or call and ordain others. And they have not the Spirit of God or they would know they needed that authority.

Jesus talked about "blind guides leading the blind." One cannot see without the spirit of revelation. Man doesn't print a placard, start a church, graduate from Divinity School and build a bunch of churches without authority. And finally, the ancient church had an open canon of scripture. That means that as God revealed "new light" to His apostles and prophets, they could write it down and add it to their existing canon. The Christian world of today has only the 66 books of the Bible; however, the ancient church had quite a bit more that we don't have today.

What utter bullshit, the bible of course. We have the story of the Apostles selecting Matthais to replace Judas by throwing sticks. It would appear throwing sticks qualifies as divine spirit.
