  So, if the current GB is this "faithful and discreet slave" and they place greater emphasis on 1919 now, are they saying that only a few anointed christians were selected in the 1st century, followed by nearly 2000 years of no selections and starting around 1914-1919, the selection of the rest of the 144,000 resumed?

  If so, this is an easy explanation for the increase in numbers of partakers since 2008. Have they gone right out and said this officially or have they only alluded to it up to now?

  Also, the original understanding was this "shut door" policy of 1935. I never understood how they arrived at that year. Was 1935 based on scripture or did Rutherford/Knorr just pull that out of their asses? I have a feeling that additional "noo lite" will come out in 2013 that officially redacts the 1935 teaching.

  Or has this already happened? Have I missed something?

  I'll take a stab at this.

  The number of the annointed does not seem to be affected by this change. It is simply the role. So it doesn't mean more were chosen after 1919. So that should address your second point. What they have explained from the sidelines regarding the number increasing is that some may not be mentally stable and still being counted.

  The 1935 "shut door" policy was already done away with. Remember, there is a 47 year old GB member. The only reason they considered it to begin with according to them, is because that is when the great crowd seemed to appear. They later backed off that.

  Technically they now teach that whoever the youngest member of the annointed (who are now not the FDS), has to be alive when the end comes. So still ina roundabout way, predicting when the end will come. I am sure I will live to see this teaching backed off as well.

  Well,if I remember correctly,I think the 1935 date came from them shifting focus on those of the earthly class. And so,they at the time concluded,that must mean that the number going to heaven was completed,except maybe for replacements for some annointed going,"rogue" lol,and leaving the organization,etc.

  But,yeah,they pulled that date out of a hat or something,along with all the other ones. The 1919 date always disturbed me. They never fully explained it,and it is not in the Bible.

  The bad foundation of this remnant of PARTAKERS count is that they WTBTS INC dont understand the new covenant cup. Jesus served it to the earthly class believers. They WTBTS confuse the new covenant with the kingdom covenant. The chill of the 19 35 idea was that the new partakers were REPLACEMENTS. that meant that thousands had to be come judasses, unfaithful, which is probably not far from the truth. so they dropped 35, because Rev.7 shows the sealing will stop at the Big A. and The END did not come in 35, 38-9 75 may be 87?

  Rightly : WE SHOULD ALL PARTAKE. that will keep them busy counting. (if its all legit) peace.

  It is a case book example of circular reasoning - and how it eventually breaks down.

  1935 was the year the Society 'understood' who the great crowd was, namely, they were the same as the sheep of Matthew 25:31-46. And since that is so, and since God has shown that to us, then, logically speaking, there must be a reason why He has shown that to us: It must be because the gathering of the "anointed", who are the same as the 144,000, is done (except for a few replacements, of course).

  Unfortunately, the "great crowd" is not identical with the "sheep" of Mt 25.

  And the "anointed" is not identical with the 144,000.

  And thus, God did not show them this in 1935, rather, they assumed/presumed He did, to give their 'understanding' more authority. (After all, try saying something authoratative whilst also saying you are not sure if this is right ...)

  The partakers at the memorial decreased because they said they must, putting peer pressure on any who might think they should. This would also be an example of a 'self-fulilling prophaecy.'

  They claim that Jehovah revealed who the great multitude [great crowd] were in a speech given by Rutherford at the assemby held May 30-June 3, 1935. It was actually aimed at the Jonadabs who had come to the assemby. They were the ones at the time with an 'earthly hope.' Everyone else was going to heaven.

  He asked all those with an earthly hope to stand up. And when they had, he announced, "Behold! the great multitude!"

  It's from their account in the 1975 yb, p.156-157:

  WHO MAKE UP THE “GREAT MULTITUDE”?
  
  That had been a burning question among Jehovah’s people for years. Long had they viewed the “great multitude” (“great crowd,” NW) as a secondary spiritual class who would be associated with the 144,000 anointed ones in heaven, like bridesmaids or “companions” of this Bride of Christ. (Ps. 45:14, 15; Rev. 7:4-15; 21:2, 9) In addition to this, as early as 1923 the “sheep” of Jesus’ parable of the sheep and the goats were identified as a present-day earthly class who would survive Armageddon into God’s promised new order. (Matt. 25:31-46; Rev. 16:14, 16) The 1931 volume Vindication (Book One) identified the persons marked on the forehead for preservation (Ezek. chap. 9) as the “sheep” of Christ’s parable. In 1932 it was concluded that this present-day class of “sheep” had been prefigured by Jehu’s associate Jonadab. First in 1934 was it made clear that these “Jonadabs” with earthly hopes should “consecrate,” or enter a dedicated relationship with Jehovah, and be baptized. But the identity of the “great multitude” referred to in Revelation chapter 7 was still understood the same as previously held.
  
  Uncertainties about the “great multitude” were removed when Brother Rutherford discussed that subject during the assembly of Jehovah’s witnesses on May 30 to June 3, 1935, in Washington, D.C. In that discourse it was shown Scripturally that the “great multitude” was synonymous with the “other sheep” of the time of the end. Webster L. Roe recalls that at a climactic moment J. F. Rutherford asked: “Will all those who have the hope of living forever on the earth please stand?” According to Brother Roe, “over half of the audience stood,” and the speaker then said: “BEHOLD! THE GREAT MULTITUDE!” “There was at first a hush,” recalls Mildred H. Cobb, “then a gladsome cry and the cheering was loud and long.”
  
  Soon the convention was over, but it had started something—a search. “With enthusiasm running high and renewed spirituality, we went back to our territories to search for these sheeplike people who were yet to be gathered,” says Sadie Carpenter.
  
  After the 1935 convention, some who previously partook of the emblematic bread and wine at observances of the Lord’s Evening Meal ceased partaking. Why? Not due to unfaithfulness, but because they now realized that their hopes were earthly, not heavenly. And whereas the Society’s publications of former years had been designed primarily for Jesus’ anointed followers, from 1935 onward The Watchtower and other Christian literature provided spiritual food to benefit both the anointed class and their companions having earthly prospects.
