  The Sefer Yezirah text is Judaism's pivotal thamaturgic handbook for man playing God. The notes to BT Sanhedrin 65b in the Soncino edition state that hte rabbis' magical act of creating the calf "does not come under the ban of witchcraft (because) the Creation was accomplished by means of the power inherent in...mystic combinations of the Divine Name." While this Talmud reference to the rabbinic creation of life is obscure, another rabbinic act of creation using Kabbalistic combinations of the letters of the "Divine Name" is better known, if not notorious. This is the "golem," dead matter supposed to have been brought to life as a gentile-killing avenger. Kabbalistic legend has this occuring in the Bohemian capital city of Prague circa 1586, thorugh the power of Rabbi Judah Loew, by means of a Kabbalistic amulet he fashioned containing magical letters.

  I always start the day by reading the daily text from Sefer Yetzirah. Actually the story of the Golem in the 1600s in Poland is very desperate. Christians were once again slaughtering Jews by the thousands instigated by their religious leaders who were telling the Christians that Jews cooked Christian babies in their prepartion for Passover. Rabbi Judah Low ben Bezabel, as the story goes, created a Golem by use of a Cabalistic word order. The Golem was to protect Jews from Christians mobs. Fearing that the Golem was to powerful the Rabbi undoes the incantation then the Golem is said to lie in death in the attic of the Prague Synagogue waiting for the Messiah.

  "The change in thought in England that Dee promised through Cabala was not unlike what Karl Marx promised 300 years later. Before men used philosophy to describe the world, but now Dee, as master of Cabala, would change the world through magic. The principle was simple: Hebrew was the language spoken by God himself. If a man, through magic, could learn their names, he could, like God, command them to do his bidding. According to contemporary thought—thought which Dee accepted completely—the heavenly bodies determined the existence of minerals in the earth.... By learning the names of the angels who moved planets like the sun, Dee would become the master of the elements, able to change lead into gold, as well as the master of intelligence, able to send messages (aggelos meant messenger) back and forth without cipher...."

  Has anyone read this book? I bet there is a ton of information to corroborate the content on this thread. By the way, this is a book from an occultist point of view. This is not Christian.

  Note that the name of Jesus Christ is forbidden in Masonic lodges, yet the Tetragrammaton is the most important.
