I was glad to hear from them, always liked them. But when they said they'd been looking for me "for years" my cynicism kicked in. Anyone could find me on google in less than a minute if they know my name.
I'd rather not be cynical about the phone call, but previous experience with JW "love" makes me cynical.
After 20 years someone was thinking about you, even if it was with a JW angle of wanting to save you.

because of who he is, I doubt that he will ever leave the org. He's kind of a big shot and I'm sure is looked up to quite a bit.
I did have a long chat with him and his wife, caught up on everything they are doing and most of what I've been doing. We'll see if I ever hear from them again.
I'd guess that his reply sounds like he isn't surprised or disappointed that you decided to leave. As long as I'm guessing, it sounds like he'd rather be a thinker like you and be done with it all. When he just says they're "publishers in good standing", they're staying on the minimum, non-enthusiastic side of JW involvement.
I think you're right, they're doing the minimum.
I can picture myself looking in on people I've known in the Borg. Simply human. If they were counting thier time, so what?

Of course, in "JW-ese", "thinker" means "follower of Satan", "apostate", and so on...

Oh well, one of those things. I doubt that I'll hear from them again. To tell the truth, I think they heard some gossip about me and called to see what they could find out.
