Reminds me of the book 'One Second After' by William Forstchen.
If you haven't read it yet, it's a good read.
Seriously, we are so dependent on the 'grid' that if it was somehow shut down and there was no way to communicate, chaos could result. There is the new 'Revolution' show on TV...kinda reminds me of it too.
