    Hi everyone

We recently had a thread highlighting the best British bands...

    http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/230126/1/Best-British-Bands

It seems only fair to have a similar thread about American bands.

    Here's my own top ten...

    1. The Eagles

    2. REM

    3. Nirvana

    4. The Killers

    5. The Foo Fighters

    6. Red Hot Chili Peppers

    7. The Doors

    8. The Beach Boys

    9. Guns n Roses

    10. Aerosmith

The list is in no particular order, although the Eagles rightly occupy top spot because I LOVE their stuff. Here's why...

The Doors were one of the best.

Personally, I LOVE R&B, soul and motown and 60 and 70s.

Who's better than the Temptations, the Four Tops, The OJays, Frankie Valli & The 4 Seasons???

minimus - that's a good point. Maybe I've been too restrictive in limiting my selection of bands to rock'n'roll? It just seemed a good like-for-like response to the British bands thread I suppose.

I for one enjoy a bit of motown when I'm in the mood.

I associate American bands with rock too.

    How about:

    1. The Glenn Miller Band
    2. Benny Goodman's Big Band
    3. Woody Herman & His Orchestra
    4. The Duke Ellington Orchestra

But since the context of the thread implies R&R:

    1. The Jimi Hendrix Experience and
    2. The Santana Blues Band
    3. Joe Satriani
    4. ZZ Top

I realize that 3 out of 4 of these three feature one particular guitarist, but over the years they have had largely the same personnel.

    Whatever. They all rock!

Dear God, Cedars! Narrowing the top rock and roll bands down to 10 is tough enough. Now you bring Motown into it?

I'm going to need a drink

The Allman Brothers Band that played a 3 or 4 hour concert one snowy night at the Filmore East. WAS THE BEST PERFORMING ROCK BAND EVER. You Tube has some of that live performence.

The first concert I went to after leaving the 'truth' was Joe Cocker and Mad Dogs and Englishmen with Leon Russell. I was wearing a tie and sports jacket like I was at a meeting. This was no meeting! As band members took turns singing and preforming I kept asking my wife "Which one is Joe Cocker, who's the guy in the top hat who never smiles (Leon)?

When Cocker came out you knew immediately who he was. We were seven rows back and it was like that ad where the sound system is blowing the guy out of his chair. Live performence also on youtube.

Man I had some catching up to do.
