... well, tomorrow there will be a big announcement in my company that will, if the gossip is correct, mean redundancies in all departments. My normal gossip network has no reliable data, just scuttlebutt. I don't know if I am safe or not... I think I might be, as my Manager's asked me to be in to help him (boss code for "Help me sack people?"), but it's all guess work at the moment.

    Abaddon,

A stressful time, life has its moments, doesn't it?

I'm confident you've made yourself valuable to your company through your work. Even if a company gets rid of a ridiculous number of its workers (like 50%), they still need a good group of core workers to generate profits after the reorganization.

If your company is so weak that they cannot even retain you, then you are better off elsewhere! But I hope it doesn't need to come to that.

Hope to hear good news from you on this thread in a few days!!

    Abaddon,

I will pray for you in this time of trial. It is times like this that make faith important. Instead of offering you "luck" which is offered with sincerity, but is not rational, I will offer you the help of the God I believe in and my good thoughts. Those who have faith in God can tell you countless stories of how this faith shored them up in times of trouble and gave them a foundation to go on. I could personally tell a few of those and offer them to you if you would like.

With all sincerity, I will pray that you have peace during this time and that you and your family are secure, regardless of the outcome.

    God Bless

Abaddon...if you were not such a good guy, I would suggest that you get material to blackmail your boss to keep him from sacking you. lol But seriously as you know how to think, you are a valuable contribution to your company and as an employer myself in the past when I've made decisions between workers who knew how to think vs. people who had been there the longest...well let's just say seniority isn't all it's cracked up to be.

    Good Luck.

well, not to be the wet blanket on this thread...but, at least you have a day to mentally prepare (as if that's possible)

I worked for an International Automotive Manufacturing company up until a couple of months ago. I felt very secure in my position and everyone loved me. One morning, my boss said that her boss would like to see me in his office. It was quick, cold and to the point. I was given 5 minutes to gather my personal things and was escorted out of the building.

Driving home I was in total disbelief. No chance to digest it or even to say good-bye to friends. Many 'positions were eliminated' that day. It just seemed more devastating to me since I had replaced my Kingdom Hall friends with work friends...and here I was, alone again.

I was immediately offered a job with one of their vendors...unfortunately, I took it without giving myself the chance to think about what I really wanted.

Cutbacks are hard for everyone involved. The ones who remain are left with a very insecure feeling of 'I could be next' Morale goes way down as does company loyalty. Seems to be a lose-lose situation. But, then money seems to always outweigh people.

Abaddon...just prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Whatever happens, I have no doubt as to your continuing success. You're smart and confident...two attributes that thrive in an unstable work environment.

Work for yourself. Control your own destiny. That's my philosophy. I've been doing my own thing for quite a while and although it has its added stresses, at least I know that I am responsible, not some stuffed shirt upstairs who has to make the payment for his yacht next month. Hell, _I_ can be that guy with some effort.

Maybe, Abbadon, you can close your web browser, put down the long-haired books and learn how to run a business, and then you won't be so reliant on other people to make a living.
