    So sad.

    Especially sad when in reality , many of the leaders of the WTBTS are uncertain of their doctrinal position.

    I had a few conversations with a now deceased JW who was a medical professional & advised the WTBTS on medical ethics & he confided in me a couple of times that a lot of the prominent ones in Brooklyn wished that the society would make it a conscience matter but that it would stumble too many JWs & too many lives had already been lost.

    Maybe when Smalley dies the WTBTS ban will finally be rescinded. Too late for many , sadly.

    In this case, it looks like the WT got just what they wanted. They confuse and guilt-trip the average JW into going FAR BEYOND the WT's latest policies, even those written in their mags, because they can't keep up with it, and are so afraid they will die for all eternity they don't want to take ANY chances of slipping up. They WOULD NOT have DF'ed this young man - it was HIS DECISION... boosted by fear-induction from the elders who stop short of promising DFing. This happens all the time. The history of the Society tells many of these stories where JWs go BEYOND current WT written policy due to the effectiveness of the brainwashing! They make it appear that the decision is really the victim's - because it is! But nothing would have happened to the voung man if he took blood. The congo would not have DFed him.
    Now he is DEAD.
    The WT can wash their hands of any "wrongdoing," as it was his decision.

    Randy, there has to be a way around this. What can be done to get the word out to jws and doctors? My jw mom doesn't talk to me at al, and even if she did, she wouldn't believe that accepting a blood transfusion isn't a da'ing offense.

    The change of practice that Dogpatch is talking about, dated from 2005, you can find it on the "noblood" forum, this is Jan B. Wade, a bloodless coordinator who said that:

    "There has been some refinement in what a Jehovah's Witness patient may or may not accept. Some Jehovah's Witnesses may not require the blood to be kept in a directely connected line. For these patients two or three units might be removed and kept standing by in the room for reinfusion. Other patients might want the removed blood to be attached to a return line that is actually connected to their body. It is up to the individual patient to decide."
