    Your picture is a bit generous, they only include a limited number of peoples at the edges of those dimensions. The 70 figure is of course astrological, 70 being a very significant number. My comment was only to poke fun at the fact that the list is incomplete. Given the middle east has always been an area with a lot of travelling caravans, im sure they would have been aware of the amazing cultures in India with their grand religion and more, given parts or similar ideas can be foundin jewish texts. So why did they omit the poeples in the Indian subcontimnent ?

    The number draws on Canaanite mythology.....Asherah and El had seventy sons who formed the divine assembly, and the view in Deuteronomy 32:8 is that God (Elyon) apportioned the nations according to the number of the "sons of God" (= the divine assembly), with Yahweh inheriting Israel as his portion. The corruption in the MT (aimed at erasing the henotheism in the text) also presupposes that the number was seventy.

    Good question about the omission of India, and even most of Iran is omitted.
