A funny story concerning the Mennonites. Dress was

very relax in Belize. One of the Brothers, (from Calif) and

his wife would wear short, short cut off jeans. Both where

in great physical condition. So when we travel across the river

each week to purchase goods from the Mennonites, this brother

on purpose would don his shorts. This brother , blond, blue eyes,

great tan strolls into the Mennonite store. All of sudden out of '

no where you see all these young Mennonites girls coming from the

back of the store, peeping around corners. The Mennonites there

where pale looking, so you have A Brother that looks like A

movie star and white (not many whites dealt with them). It was

hilarious. Always exciting times with that brother, and yes he

    was A elder.

There are many menonites in all of South America. It's quite shocking to see a huge spanish influence give way to countless white people in overalls and straw hats.

You'll know when you hit the menonite areas right away. ;)

There are many hundreds in San Jose - after going for weeks not seeing any foreigners it was strange to see people that looked like they were right out of deliverance walking the streets... ;)

I have to admit, their community was breathtaking,

compared to the surrounding community. You think

    you just landed in Nebraska.

I've only been there on day excursions while cruising different countries in the Caribbean. It is a fun place to visit, lots of scenery and shopping, and some good food. Be sure to find a tour group so that you can see the Mayan ruins, and if you are there for more than a day, there are some great snorkeling excursions. While you are in Belize City, just take care not to wander too far off the beaten path, and beware of pickpockets. I saw a Lady get her wallet stolen from her purse there...

WhaHappened, that twisty cactus plant snake thingy is neat looking, but I would hate to get into a fight with it!-lol Glad you got some nice pictures! I bet that you will love South America when you go, I haven't been yet, but it is on my bucket list.
