Thanks a million to the 4 people, who have signed the White House petition at http://wh.gov/tFK .

I would also like to especially thank signer #3 Steven H of Somerville, MA for signing the petition. I received an email from Steve Hassan stating that he signed the petition and tweeted about it.

Please visit the "Protect Americans from Dangerous Orgs" Facebook page at http://on.fb.me/wh-petition if you would like to learn more reasons why to sign the White House petition and how to remain anonymous if you want by reading the FAQ box that is pinned to the top of the Facebook timeline.

Does anyone have any ideas how to make the White House petition at least as popular as Sparlock on JWN?

Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,

    Robert

How was your day yesterday and today?

Yesterday, I wrote to the following people to support the White House petition http://wh.gov/tFK and to visit the "Protect Americans from Dangerous Orgs" Facebook page http://on.fb.me/wh-petition :

Dear Mr. Mitch Horowitz, Do you believe that a person has basic rights of freedom of religious belief and speech and do you want to help victims of dangerous orgs? If you do, please read the White House petition “Protect Millions of Americans from Dangerous Orgs” at http://wh.gov/tFK by June 30, 2012; if you have a Facebook account; “Like” the White House petition link above and the Facebook link below; email the link to former dangerous cult members and other interested people, who you know; and/or write letters to the President, your U.S. senators, and your U.S. representative. This is my second attempt to promote this petition on the White House website – the first petition expired on May 26, 2012. If 25,000 people (Americans only, probably) sign the petition by June 30, 2012, the White House Staff will review this petition. If more than 150 people sign this petition before June 30, 2012, the petition will be viewable by all White House website visitors and appear on internet search browsers. For more information about this petition, please read information on the Facebook page “Protecting Americans from Dangerous Orgs” using either http://on.fb.me/wh-petition (short url) or http://www.facebook.com/pages/Protecting-Americans-from-Dangerous-Orgs/264002310365016 . Most of my ideas for identifying a dangerous org (e.g., cults), I learned from reading Steve Hassan's book “Combatting Cult Mind Control” and relating it to my personal experiences with Jehovah's Witnesses. I learned of your article " When Does a Religion Become a Cult? " by visiting www.freedomofmind.com . Thank you in advance for reviewing and responding to my email.

    Sincerely,

    Robert

I plan to send a few more messages tonight.

Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,

    Dear NOW Communication Administrator,

Does NOW believe that women (and men) have basic rights of freedom of religious belief and speech and wants to help victims of dangerous orgs? If NOW does, please send an email Blast to NOW members about visiting the White House petition “Protect Millions of Americans from Dangerous Orgs” at wh.gov/tFK before June 15, 2012; post a link to the petition on the NOW website; “Like” the White House petition link above and the Facebook link below; and/or write letters to the President, your U.S. senators, and your U.S. representative.

Women are abused by dangerous orgs more than men, because men lead most dangerous orgs. Warning: watching the first 30 seconds of the video “Women and Religious Cults (1 of 5)” ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvvnU59BIdc&feature=related ) shows the dark side of some dangerous orgs.

Today, I received the following email from the National Organization of Women. The email is probably just a nice "thank you note and don't bother us again", but you never know. I also included my reply in the quotes below.

If you are a woman and feel that the WTBTS adversely affected your life, please write about your experiences to [email protected] or complete the electronic mail form at http://www.now.org/comments.html.

    Dear NOW Staff Representative,

Thank you for reading and responding to my request to at least send an email blast to NOW members to visit the White House petition “Protect Millions of Americans from Dangerous Orgs” at http://wh.gov/tFK and/or Facebook page “Protecting Americans from Dangerous Orgs” at http://on.fb.me/wh-petition . In the one dangerous org that I am most familiar with about 600,000 American women are taught to be subservient to men, and about 4.2 million in the World.

From personal experience, I like most Americans was unaware of mind-control techniques used and harm caused by dangerous orgs until I met a Jehovah's Witness, who tried to recruit me into the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society (WB&TS). Dangerous orgs like the (WB&TS) are very good at promoting a positive image of the org by using mind and emotional control techniques to coerce and intimidate its members to promote the org. Steve Hassan's website ( www.freedomofmind.com ) and the "Protecting Americans from Dangerous Orgs" facebook page contain valuable information about identifying dangerous orgs and how to help victims of dangerous orgs.

    Sincerely,

    Dear Robert,

Thank you for contacting NOW. With a paid staff of less than 30 and 1/2 a
million member activists NOW works on a variety of issues that affect the
lives of women on a daily basis, but unfortunately we can't address all
issues that are worthy of attention.

The disproportionate effect of dangerous cults on women is an important
issue and your comments are noted. NOW appreciates learning from all those
    concerned about women’s rights.

    Best,
    NOW Staff

Today I sent emails/electronic messages similar to the message in the quote box below to the following organizations:

Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,

    Robert

Dear Child Protection Center, Inc. Representative,

Do you want to prevent victims of child molestation or abuse from being victimized by their community? Do you want to motivate non-profit organizations to notify government authorities about child molestation or abuse as soon as possible? If you want to protect children from predators as well as prevent victims from being victimized by members of non-profit organizations, then please support modifying USC Title 26 §501 (and possibly § 170) to clearly define public policy that non-profit organizations must promote child protection, as well as, basic rights of freedom of religious belief and speech to their members and/or employees.

One step towards helping protect children would be to email links in this message to interested people, who you know, about visiting the White House petition “Protect Millions of Americans from Dangerous Orgs” at http://wh.gov/tFK before June 15, 2012; post a link to the petition on http://www.cpcsarasota.org/; “Like” the White House petition link above and the Facebook link below; and/or write and promote writing letters to the President, U.S. senators, and U.S. representatives. When writing to the President, U.S. senators, and U.S. representatives, please emphasize that non-profit organizations should be required to protect children from molestation, abuse, and/or endangerment.

The following videos show how children are not protected by non-profit organizations that they or their parents are members of:

    · “Ultra-Orthodox Jews Shun Their Own Reporting Child Sexual Abuse” - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_DSjrtoZ0s ,

To me it is very tragic that Candace Conti won a court case against the WTBTS for child molestation and WTBTS secrecy (see thread http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/child-abuse/227049/1/Plaintiff-awarded-in-punitive-damages-21M-1-dollar-Total-award-28M-1-dollar-Heres-more-info ) and she also probably had to suffer shunning from JW family and friends in addition to being molested. Hopefully this petition might be able to prevent more child molestation from occurring as well as reducing shunning by JWs, and by members of other dangerous orgs.

Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,

I suspect this thread was not clearly titled in an attempt to hide this thread from my comments. To repeat what I argued in other threads, this petition is not only illegal, it is grossly unconst'l. The Supreme Court, in any manifestation, would bar such a move. The First Amendment protects religious freedom. The same goal can be reached by removing tax exemption for all religion. The OP never explains why he chose to remove only "dangerous" cults. The OP is incorrect and does not want to learn the law.

Besides a gross violation of the Constitution, the OP's plan would also be struck down for being too vague. "Dangerous" is too lose a concept to give notice to the public what is and is not permissible. It would vest arbitrary and capricious power in the hands of an uncontrolled bureaucracy. This country was founded by religious dissidents. They were very purposeful in barring federal estalishments. Without such a guarantee, there would be no United States of America.

If the bottom line is venom towards the WT, existing criminal laws apply to WT conduct. Removing all religious exemption is not unconst'l. The wording of the First Amendment is no accident. Law does not exist to right all wrongs. Many wrongs are better remediated through public education. News of the multimillion dollar award is such public education. It puts the public on notice not to become a Witness. Such moves are within the realm of the possible.

I am certain the OP is well-meaning. He wanted his view to go forth and issued battle orders. I suggested he see any lawyer any place so he could verify my statements. So other posts now have notice. Please note that Obama first came to promise at a Democratic National Convention when he gave a prime time speech on why progressives should claim the mantle of Christianity and not let the GOP define Christianity. Also, since becoming president, President Obama has increased funding for social welfare faith based organizations. A move that suprised many. His personal belief is clear that religion is beneficial to society. Obama believes in funding faith based programs. Most of his followers assumed such programs would end the day he became president. He has actually increased the funding and scope of the programs.

    Robert,

Write to the pope and GB, too! Writing to everyone listed in the phone book will not help you. It reminds me of people throwing political parties. The governor, U.S. Senator and President of the United States are always invited guests. Yes, I, too, can write to the Queen of England asking her to come to my tea party. The problem comes when I believe she will show up.
