over here probably the most common pickles
are the gherkin onion and eggs that you find in most chip shops
    and pubs
branstons pickle and picalilli are pretty common (though I think people
just have the picallili for show cos its an aquired taste)
personally i like the home made cutneys.

i think they put the gherkin in those burgers so you can check no ones
    left their nails or
spat in your burger when you take it out

SWEET MIXED taste great in a tuna sandwich, and DILLS, no garlic on a hamburger.

There is nothing like the eye scrinching taste of the mega sour pickles from North Carolina. They are sure to make you teary eyed. Oh yeah, don't forget to eat your pickle with a bag of salt & vinegar potato chips.

And, do pickles go bad if you open the container and don't refrigerate them?

Just like Jehovah's Witnesses that discontinue to adhere to the words of the faithful and discreet servant/slave(a very well off slave, but one nonetheless) when exposed to outside information and influences so to will pickles go bad if you open the container and don't refrigerate them.

Of all people cyg, you should be able to attest to the above fact. (think I read it in a Watchtower from the 70's).

Half-sour dills, like you get in good pub-style restaurants.

    Yummy.
