I took an Alaskan cruise in 2001 and would do it again in a heartbeat if I only had the $$$

I went on Royal Caribbean Vision of the Seas out of Vancouver.

Enjoy the trip and if you are going in the summer take plenty of bug spray. We went in Sept when the mosquito season was over thank goodness. But you should be ok if you are going Sept 1. If they have excursions at some of the stops -- TAKE THEM. We took the train in Skagway and saw a bit of history unfold before us and in Juneau we took a catamaran out to see some of the wildlife.

Take a really good pair of binocluars. You should see some orca.

    Highlight of the trip

The ship went into one of the fjords and when it went in as far as it could it literally spun around and went back out the way it came. It was pretty awesome because there was very little room for a ship that size to turn. The moveable rubbers allow it to spin practically in one spot. Truly awesome to stand there and watch the scenery shift in a circle like that.

We went on a Caribbean cruise a few years ago on Royal Caribbean's Radiance of the Seas. It was a beautiful ship, and Just Ron really enjoyed playing pool on the self leveling pool table. We chose Princess this time mainly because it's just the 2 of us and the price was better on Princess. I'd actually like to try all the major cruise lines.

Hoser - I looked up that itinerary, and I am so grateful we are on Princess (not Carnival) and not the same week either.

An Alaskan cruise sounds wonderful! I am excited for you! Have an incredible time, and be sure to let us know how it went, and post some pictures of the scenery if you wouldn't mind. I have family who has been, and they said it is one of the most beautiful places on Earth to visit. At one time, I had even thought of moving there, and actually there are some areas that have a very temperate climate during the Winter.

Keep an eye out for the Aurora Borealis, you will be in a prime spot to possibly see it. I hear it can be very vivid and spectacular in that neck of the woods!

Take care, be safe, and have lots of fun!!!

Lois, I pmd you in return :)

We are at the Holiday Inn in Seattle right now. Just Ron has had too many Long Island Iced Teas and is plotting to make Sparlock dolls that sing Cedar's song when you press its left hand LOL
