When my Mom passed away my non Witness Father told me to follow her wishes for a Witness funeral ,but to warn the Brother to keep it short ,and sweet or else he would be out on his ear . (my Dad means what he says ) The Elder had recently lost his wife, and was very sympathetic to our wishes . I told him I did NOT want a Sunday public talk ,but a simple respectful rememberance of my Mom, and he could include what her hope was . To my surprise he even allowed me to give a short personal eulogy about my Mom. He did fairly well until the end when he started going on about what my Mom (aka Witnesses) believed , I felt my Dad begin to tense and heard a few growls under his breath .....so I started clearing my throat loud enough for the speaker to look at me, then I gave him the finger across the throat motion (cut) Thankfully he got my point and concluded ....

During the visitation a crazy JW woman kept starting conversations with my relatives that were very inappropriate ,asking if they thought my Mom had been in pain or if she knew what was happening at the end... I ended up having to ask her to leave . She showed up at the funeral with her service bag and tracts ......she was escorted to the door and was told now was not her service time . What a nit wit ...she had no sense of boundries what so ever

Most of the Witnesses though were very nice ,and well mannered ,only a few tried to use the 'Oh your Mom will want to see you in the new system' jab ,because I was inactive at the time .

I felt embarrassed for some of them ...they honestly don't know how rude and weird they come off as when they try to witness to others at funerals .

    JW's cannot help themselves.

Ain't that the dirty truth! They claim that their motives are inspired by Paul's words about not shutting up about what they have seen and heard. The death literature is so sleazy, imo. Preying on peoples emotions after losing a dead loved one is all kinds of messed up.

A co-worker told me about attending a funeral for a JW. It was either a friend, or relative(I can't remember which) of his wife's. Some JWs got their name and address off the registry and began calling on them. These people really have no shame.

Well to be fair, it was only worth going to the poor baby's funeral if the faithful JWs could give a witness and count some time.

I hate being reminded of how I used to think OTWO.

    What a shame.

t_b_k, ...many Witnesses have no conscious. That was a heartless thing to do. EXACTLY!

    Yes Bangalore, it was tacky.

Oo,pa, I actually thing your great uncle was wrong, but to do it at his funeral was the right thing to do. He would have rolled onto the floor laughing if he could get the casket open.

    o4g3, especially the pioneers.

I am with you Moshe, except as pointed out- Dog catchers do something to protect people.

Troubled mind, thanks for the story. Yes, most don't realize how they come off.

Thanks Sabastious and Terry. When they aren't praying, they are preying.

Keyser Soze, calling on them? How awful.

cult classic, I suppose that would be true for someone there. It had to be a family member. My guess is a pioneer, but it could have been the parents of the baby's father.

Outlaw, that carcass would have to be the alternative for potential JW's in attendance.

Aquagirl, I agree. I just couldn't do it discreetly.

Has anyone ever carried around some anti witness tracks, JWFACTS.com has a pdf of them, or something like this to "insert inside" any WT mags that they see laying around

    hospitals, nursing homes, etc, etc.?

This would help innoculate anyone that might have a tendency to pick up a WT or Awake! !!
