The quote below was mentioned in a silentlambs post of “pot calling the kettle black”
    *** w90 2/1 25 Exposing "the Man of Lawlessness" ***
    .
19 The worldliness of some clergy has even been exposed in the media in recent times, as for example the licentious and luxurious life-styles of some TV clergymen. One modern songwriter composed a song with the title: “Would Jesus Wear a [$10,000] Rolex [watch] on His Television Show?” The song goes on to say: “Would Jesus be political if He came back to earth, have His second home in [luxurious] Palm Springs and try to hide His worth?” In addition, more and more clergymen condone or practice homosexuality. Even now the Catholic Church in the United States is paying millions of dollars in damages to compensate for priests guilty of sexual abuse of children.—Romans 1:24-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9, 10.
20 Such wrongdoing cannot be ignored by God’s servants but must be exposed for the benefit of others. The great crowd of other sheep must be protected from those who would try to lead them to break God’s laws. And those “sighing and groaning over all the detestable things that are being done” need to be searched out and gathered to the protective guidance of the Great Shepherd, Jehovah God, and “the fine shepherd,” Christ Jesus.—Ezekiel 9:4; John 10:11; Proverbs 18:10.

I find it interesting the quote above regarding the $10,000 Rolex worn by Jesus. It is notable that about the same time this article was written, someone at Bethel was wearing a $10,000 Rolex. That person was Max Larson. The story goes like this. It seems Brother Larson was approaching his fiftieth year of full time service. It was decided that an envelope would be circulated at all departments in Bethel with the “suggestion” of a contribution for Brother Larson’s fiftieth anniversary gift. If you did not contribute you made to feel like a heel for not supporting the effort. What was the gift? You guessed it, a $10,000 Rolex watch. Max wore his watch with pride and continues to do so today. As the president of the printing corporation it would appear the little lyric quoted above seemed not to prick the conscience of Brother Larson in the least as he serves in his leadership role of God’s organization on earth.

50 years? Let the guy enjoy his watch. Guy went to Bethel for Paridise and eternal life, he gets a watch. Bum deal.

Why not? Jesus wore "seamless undergarments" which were sort of the Guccis of the day.

With a "suggestion" of a contribution, In other words, we except the faith to contribute this amount. How come its okay to celebrate his 50-th anniversay there at bethel, and yet wrong for me or anyone else to celebrate the birth of a child. One of those things that make you go HUmmmmmmmmm.

By gosh if the rank and file do it its wrong, however, if we suggest it, it has the power of law. HUMMMMMMMM

No messenger, he wouldn't... that's the short answer.

He would know that a Patek Philippe is much the finer timepiece and a lot more tasteful than a gaudy Rolex, which is little more than a mediocre movement encased in a vulgar hunk of gold.

How do you know this story is true?

How do you know the rolex cost $10,000?

Could they have bought the watch from a brother that owns a jewelry store, thus getting it very cheap?

Is it wrong to receive a gift?

How do you know that Jesus would not wear a rolex?

Is Jesus not worthy of wearing a rolex?

    Did Jesus accept gifts?

Does it make Max Larson a bad person to accept a gift?

Is this not harmful gossip on your part?

Are you trying to question Larson's integrity?

Was the Rolex really the gift, or was the gift a picture of the factory buildings all lighted up at night?

50 years of service results in a $10,000 watch? If I invest $825.00 at 5% interest rate, in 50 years, it will be $10,000. So, effectively (assuming the truth of this story), he was given $825 for 50 years of service. That works out to a whopping $16.50 per year! Don't ever let it be said that the WTBTS doesn't care about its worker bees.
