    Governing Body — Samuel Herd — 1979

Today I uploaded a new article addressing a portrayal compared with a reality. It involves a now sitting member of Watchtower’s Governing Body by the name of Samuel Herd. There are pictures, and there are signed documents that have not been widely shared to my knowledge.

My article is titled Governing Body — Samuel Herd — 1979 and is available at: http://marvinshilmer.blogspot.com/2011/08/governing-body-samuel-herd-1979.html

Meanwhile Jesus didn't have a place to lay his head. Paul bragged about not asking for anything from the congregations that he visited, other than what was absolutely necessary, and he penned the classic verse, "He that does not work, let him not eat." Meanwhile my man Sam Herd, was living off of the herd. Brings a whole new meaning to, living off of the land. I guess even annointed niggaz, got the spirit of a hustler in them regardless if its in the name of the Lord. Heroin, Crack, Coke, Weed, Jesus, Jehovah, Holy Spirit, Wines & Spirits, its all the same to a hustler. Creflo Dollar, anyone?

It appears to me that he was living in the apartment at the Crownsville Assembly Hall at the time too.

Dale Baker Oldsmobile....Wasn't Dale Baker the guy who started "Circuit Leasing", supplying brand new Buicks to COs & DOs for the better part of 2 decades, until recently?

Thank God the JWs don't have a paid clergy, huh? Because having free cars, free travel, free insurance, free housing, green handshakes, etc. just isn't the same thing.

I don't know if Judah Ben Schroeder is an attorney or not, but he's got one thing going for him, and that is he married a 'fox'!
The former Amber Baker of Grand Rapids, Michigan is a nice looking blond! She is a daughter of the previous owner of the Dale Baker Oldsmobile, Inc. auto dealership which was the supplier of the leased Circuit Overseer automobiles that congregations paid for. Some rumored that the Society had money in the dealership but that has never been proved.

Can you help those of us who don't understand what $9,000 in 1979 would be equivalent to today? The letter there says Herd himself contributed a certain amount himself. But fully loaded? What did that mean in 1979?

Either way, it certainly wasn't fair for the congregations to foot the bill when the Society could easily have paid for the car themselves--I would think that even then they ought to have had arrangements for such matters originating from HQ itself. But then, how would I know? Oh, right. They were still charging for literature back then, that's how I know.

Before the WTS set up a group health insurance program and car leasing program for the COs and DOs, it pretty much fell on the circuit to provide that. I can remember one COs wife needed serious surgery and every congregation dipped into their funds and donated it for that. Once the COs car died and the circuit did the same thing, donated money into a general fund and bought him a car. I lived in an area where it was a long distance out in the field and between congregations, so an old clunker was not reasonable. But each time the circuit was not a wealthy one but they came up with enough for a good car.

Taking inflation into account, $9000 in 1979 would be about 20,000 - 25,000 today.

"Fully loaded" in 1979 is "pretty basic stuff" today - things like FM stereo, air conditioning, power windows & locks.

Well, that's hardly a nefarious amount, except that the WTS probably could've paid for it themselves.
