I think its equal not to mention objective. The UK has Radiohead, we have TV On The Radio. The UK had The Clash and The Sex Pistols, we had Bad Brains and Black Flag. With Hip Hop, UK artists shouldn't even be mentioned.
With classic rock though, the UK might have the crown. They had Led Zep, The Stones, Pink Floyd, Beatles........then again we had Hendrix, The Doors, KISS, Van Halen.......Oh and The Stooges, their albums were flames.
