I was thinking when reading another thread where it was mentioned how God's name was never used in the NT, but how often it is uttered in KHs that it is used so often, not because we need to use his name, but because it is the name associated with their organization. It is their name really. Could that be why it's used so often?
Do they use Jehovah's name repeatedly because it's their name?
Within the JW community, the word "Jehovah" is a talisman.
Yes. It's their trademark.
It makes them feel so special to repeat "Jehovah" over and over.
If they could patent Jehovah, they would.
It's also part of the 'cult vocabulary' - through their use of words, one can identify a JW, be it in the workplace, school, or wherever.
who else says ...
Serve where the need is greater
Fortunate (as opposed to lucky)
Many more terms, but my (post-menopausal hahaha) memory fails me. :D
There's some old threads on this subject ....
In my experience, JWs are shocked when they meet someone who is familiar with the word. They believe it's "their word" and it's subconsciously their brand-name for God. Since they believe the Watchtower to be His official sponsor, they bear the name "Jehovah" the way a stock car would bear a decal. The Watchtower exerts no effort to hide the fact that they believe they own exclusive rights to God and have often attempted to play puppeteer with Him, demanding dates be "proper" times for God to do things.
I've known people who have used "Jehovah" to ward off perceived evil spirits, yelled it at someone they thought was following them down a dark sidewalk, etc. Ingrain this "magic word" into the minds of the cult members, then brainwash them into seeing bogeymen around every corner. It's the perfect recipe to have JWs embarrassing themselves and bringing reproach on Jehovah's (English) name by having it screamed by paranoid-delusional morons over every bump in the night.
As many of you already know, the "name" Jehovah was invented by a Catholic monk during the middle ages. The most likely pronunciation of the name that Abraham and Moses used was "Yah-Hu." Cosmic irony at its best!
How often did Jesus use the word Jehovah in the New Testament? Never.
So they don't use it because it is a requirement. It is simply a way to make the members feel unique and hence more worthy of salvation.
Worst part about the name Jehovah, is how it is overused. Take for example when a public prayer is being said and the individual offering the prayer from the platform repeatedly and I mean repeatedly mentions 'Jehovah'. It sounds almost childish like to hear a grown man (especially an Elder) sound off like that.
A person who prays like that sounds immature IMO.
