"lots of time to shop" probably includes a grand total of 1.5 hours of buying anything and everything in sight at warp speed - then back on the bus before that dirty NY air of Satan's can corrupt!
If I remember correctly, they take you to Pier 17 at South Street Seaport, which is about as exciting as a trip to your local strip mall.
Do not be fooled -- there is nothing touristy about the trips these companies offer. Even if you go to a Broadway show or visit the Empire State Building, it's under their watch. They pick the show (it's always a Disney matinee), they lead your tour, they point out only WT properties from the observation deck...it's brutal. You even stay in JW-owned hotels, eat dinner at JW-owned restaurants (usually in the middle of nowhere)...just absolutely brutal.
