i love harry! he is so naughty... and has got red hair, which i looooove...

okay, i have calmed down now. i have always been interested in royalty in europe. my mum and i used to watch all the weddings all day on the tv. and today it is queensday in the netherlands, the birthday of the most loved queen juliana (died). the whole country is colored in orange and the whole royal family will visit a town who organised a lot of activities to do. we used to watch that all morning with some orange cake :-p and go out to party with my friends later. amsterdam is madness!! it is so busy, people dancing on boats in the canal, drinking loads of beer. i love it! ;-)

it has not changed for me, but i remember kids in my congregation who had to stay inside and could not join us to the fair, because it would be celebrating a birthday.

not british, not into all that royal family and other paparazzi stuff, and definately NOT patriotic.

my view is that i can only be proud of things i accomplish, not of things that are simply random. additionally, i'm rather ashamed of all those jokes running "my" country. at least the neighbouring countries are not a bit better in that respect...

I don't think my views have changed much since I left the Jw's I was never a great fan of royalty, or indeed the ruling class that we have always had in Britian.

I detest the English National Anthem, what a turgid load of semi-religious rubbish set to a god-awful tune, I bet the Queen is heartily sick of it too.

I do take an active interest in politics now, voting in all elections etc. I am not patriotic really, I hate to be called British, or worse a Brit, those names remind me of all the evil that has been done by Britian, I am English by birth, but not overly proud or possesive of it.

I think we should vote for the head of state too, Elton John for Queen ! , oh no, he is one already !

    Hi all,

I've always thought that Royal family earn more money for the country than they claim, and that they don't seem too arrogant so their alright with me, I rather take offence at jumped up socialist politicians who arrive at the Houses of Parliament with no cash, and proceed to fill their pockets with as many expenses as possible!!

although there were several Tory politicians who did the same, but not on the same scale

In JW world, not standing to the anthem and so on was always an embarassment if I am totally honest. Back then I didn't have many other thoughts about it. Now a days, I'm kinda ok with the monarchy but slighty contradictively not ok with parts of the UK class system which still exists believe it or not. (I live in a town with a lot of snooty-ness and for example have been turned out of a row of theatre seats in my denims because the mayor and all their entourage turned up with all their snooty clobber on)

I would say that my opinion of the U.S. Government is both lower and higher now that I'm freed from the Collective. On the one hand, I feel more obliged to take part in politics, and I have greater appreciation of the struggle that lawmakers face in order to protect the country. On the other hand, the legal discrimination against gays and prohibition of marijuana really ticks me off. All in all, I'd say the Government seems more real to me than it did, in all of its facets.

When Charles and Diana got married in 1981, Awake! ran a number of articles on the Future of the British Monarchy, with drawings of the married couple.

Diana was also in Awake another time, I think it was on an issue dealing with land mines. I remember it well.
