What video games were banned when you were a JW teen?

Fortunately I was not a JW as a teen, yet still had to deal with the elders reproaching me for playing World of Warcraft... my ex wife was the snitch in the house. WoW is rated T for teen, yet it contained everything a JW is supposed to hate: fighting, blood, magic, wars, alien species, even some sort of sex, and it was online, which meant socialising with non-JWs (oh, the horror!).

Fortunately my current fiance (who hates JWs to guts...) likes to play too, and doesn't mind at all if I play any kind of game - though I did quit WoW, it took too much time to be at least an acceptable player.

mortal kombat. the sub-zero finishing move was even described in some awake magazine.

i was afraid of someone seeing me playing warcraft II because of the demons that appeared later in the orc campaign.

we regularly made LAN parties playing empire earth (prophets and priests in there, doing miracles) and counterstrike (shooter). one of the younger guys who regularly attended the sessions turned us all in to the elders. everyone stopped talking to him afterwards ;)

later everyone startet to play world of warcraft, most of us chose an undead witch or warlock controlling a demon. some got problems with the elders because of that. but most of us were already on our leave / fade already anyway.

some bought games, had a bad conscience and threw them away again, just to buy them later, because they liked them so much. a few of us just asked them to give them to us instead of dumping them. pretty much the same story with music too.

edit: i also remember having a bad conscience after playing wolfenstein, doom, hexen and heretic. i never played ultima because of the pentagrams (and because i didn't own a computer anyways, so i always had to play with friends). i remember some of my friends owning a amiga 500 playing strip poker all the time.

I remember I was about 11-12 yrs old and we had a couple over for dinner, of which the brother was annointed. I invited his son (who was in his late teens) to play some Atari 800xl with me.... i pulled out a game called NECROMANCER. lol He asked me if I knew what that meant, and I said I had an idea that it was some kind of wizard. He clarified that it was a dark wizard who controlled the undead. "Great!", I said, "so do you want to play?" We did anyways!

Many years later I found out he was disfellowshipped for going to university to become a lawyer (yeah, that was the official story), however, I believe he became an apostate. He also had been a key player for the start of my doubts, but that's off topic.

My parents would let me play games they didn't quite understand, like: Ultima I-VI, Mortal Combat, Street Fighter, ghost 'n goblins, ghouls 'n ghosts, and later Doom, Duke Nukem, WarCraft II and of course, DIABLO.

Oh, and who was allowed to play PAC-MAN if it was about avoiding and eating g-g-g-ghosts???

@donuthole: LOL They actually bought that story?!?!!? lmao, and your right, EVERYONE knows that you have to command the sims to have sex with each other, heck EVEN when we're not playing sims, they do things on their own like clean the house, cook, play, etc. but they never had sex unless we command them of course! so I KNOW he must have been liying....p0luis...same -sex getting it on isn't sick as pedos....

@A.Fenderson: Well, Morta lkombvat is kind of like life like violence except..hm....lets see, when we kiss people on the cheek, they don't get fat and go "KABOOM!!!!" with body parts flying every where, we don't turn into dragons and eat people O_o. we don't have parhnna teeth and bite they heads off.....sure..life like vilence.....But anywho, I am thinking long and hard about it. so I'm makiing sure what i'm doing, wil lbe worth it... i think.

@s-d7: lmao at the last comment " if you press Reset, all the characters you killed get a resurrection anyway. So, evidently, this helps us to see on a small scale what God will do on a larger scale in the new system." I was rolling when i saw that comment XD.

And yes, everyone knows just because people play violent games, they can't become violent in RL, i mean, its possible...but i'm playing morta lkombat right now...well, watching the previews of the new game rather...hmm.... nope, I'm not going around killing people or slaying heads...see? lol

and plus, why is WT's "young people ask book, volume 2" is trying to give us guilt trip about the games we play?

Quote from WT "The type of game you choose can affect the way God feels about you. "Jehovah himself examines the righteous one as well as the wicked one, and anyone loving violence His soul certainly hates,"

    Here's the article about it:

Are they trying to say God judges us by the games we play? and plus, how do we know they mean volence as in fist-fights in real life infront of you? (right in front of us, no in th emovies or video games). Matter of fact...how do they know how god EVEN judges us? he could judge us differently than we think we think how he judges us. I'm not tryint to diss God..I am just saying. >.<
