False Prophets or Just Poor Interpreters?

Poor interpreters whose followers have to believe their words as if they came from God (or risk disfellowshipping if you openly disagree). After all disloyalty to the "slave" is tantamount to disloyalty to God (So if I ever send a slave to you, and you think he's totally B.S.ing you about what I want, don't try to verify with me if that is what I really want, just trust him. If he's wrong you have the excuse "I was just listening to the slave...")

A year ago, about 20 minutes into Don's book "Captives of a Concept", I pushed back and rolled my chair away from the computer and said "Oh sh**! I have a problem, because I'm no longer a Jehovah's Witness".

    What's your take?

    Anti Christs.

    Warnings Against Denying the Son

18 Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.

20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth. [ a ] 21 I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth. 22 Who is the liar? It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a person is the antichrist—denying the Father and the Son. 23 No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

24 As for you, see that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is what he promised us—eternal life.

26 I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. 27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him.

    False Teachers and Their Destruction

1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves.

The Sin and Doom of Ungodly People

3 Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people. 4 For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about [ a ] long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.

5 Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord [ b ] at one time delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe. 6 And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling—these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day. 7 In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.

The WTS. started out as crass exploitive commercialism,

it supported itself on religious virtuosity that hid its forwarding commercial appeal

to the public. Further to hasten this practicing falsehood was the appearance of power toward

a few select men who were also responsible for the day to day operation of their printing establishment.

The WTS had just become another pretentious vehicle of power and money for some opportunistic men.

The discussion/debate is found on the thread about the date for the end of the world. Feel free to add your two cents.
