They are substituting for Christ as the Pope claims to be in his title "Vicar of Christ".
Both claims are blasphemous.
What Paul is talking about in 2Cor 5 is speaking the same message that Jesus did, He being not there to speak, Paul and his companions urged all to become reconciled to God, through Christ, he did not claim that he, or other Apostles were a part of the process apart from making the appeal.
Both the Pope and the GB claim that you only come to God through them, liars both.
