I was wondering ... what are all of the "official" reasons provided by elders for disfellowshipping someone? I know the most common reasons are adultery and fornication, but what about the others?

A couple of years ago I traveled back to my hometown` and one of my old JW acquaintances told me that her grown son had been disfellowshipped for refusing to stop associating with another disfellowshipped person. So what do you think the official reason on the paperwork said? "Disfellowshipped for talking to Jason"? I imagine they put a twist on it so it doesn't as juvenile as it really is.

I think mine probably said apostasy. I kept asking questions they couldn't answer and I did not show up for my last JC. Thats about all I can say without identifying mysef. I still have familly in even though they are Jw's I still love them and they couldn't handle me being an official appostate. When my mother dies I will give a full acounting of who I am. I was a young man at the time my focus should have been on girls. That came later I had a few things to put in order. I did put them in order and my new familly and I have had a great life.

Well as is often said here - anything 3 elders agree on.

Some specifics - sex, alcoholism/drugs, badmouthing the cult or doctrine, being tangentially involved in fraud (happened to a personal friend of mine - he was innocent), porn, blood transfusion, misc bloodguilt, misc crimes (theft assault, etc), joining another church, joining any political group, smoking, voting, any form of military service... I'm sure there's lots more but I'm drawing a blank now.

Disfellowshipping for associating with any df'd person was common knowledge in the 1970s. But starting around 1980 the Watchtower started disfellowshipping for associating with disassociated persons. That is how Raymond Franz was disfellowshipped and they applied it retroactively.

Also, not believing that the Watchtower is God's organization falls into the Apostasy category.

Isn't there a new term of brazeness ?? Used as a catchall for miscellaneous attitudes and behaviors that make the elders uncomfortable...?

    -Aude.

during a CO ministerial servants meeting (guess who was the CO? Anthony Morris) that I was in years ago Anthony said touching yourself while having phone sex is loose conduct; that will get you DFed.

The "Shepard the Flock" book lists the following DF offenses:

    manslaughter

    attempted suicide

    porneia

    brazen/loose conduct

    child sexual abuse

pursuing a romantic relationship with someone not free to marry

    gross uncleanness

    misuse of addictive drugs

    apostasy

    drunkenness

    gluttony

    stealing

    lying

    fraud and slander

    obscene speech

    greed/gambling

    fits of anger/violence

As pointed out above a couple of these are so broad as to include just about anything.

edit: Looking at the book myself.

Very interesting that Child Sexual Abuse is listed as brazen/loose conduct and not porneia. Sort of explains why it's not taken seriously enough

Just saw Going Clear, about Scientology, and they mark people as a Supressive Person if they even ask simple questions of their leadership. Sounds eerily similar to being DF'ed for causing divisions.

"Apostasy" is almost certainly going to be a major reason in the coming months/years for being disfellowshipped.

The Org will start a continual worldwide witch-hunt to root out anyone who frequents web sites such as this. As such, they will depend on Witnesses "loyal" to the Org turning into informers of their family & friends!

McCarthy's era replicated in JW's "spiritual paradise"!
