What is also missing is honesty in translation.

The NIV does not have Matthew 23:14 or other scriptures.

There are not footnotes in the smaller NWTs but a dash...the larger NWT has the footnotes...The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures - With References (approx 6 x 9 or larger)

13 “Woe to YOU , scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because YOU shut up the kingdom of the heavens before men; for YOU yourselves do not go in, neither do YOU permit those on their way in to go in. 14 ——

In the mid-1970's there was a joke being told among the JWs that involved the "missing" verses in the New World Translation of the Scriptures.

A special needs talk was given in at least one congregation in California where it was said that "The Bible is not a joke book!"

Does anyone remember what this joke was?

Was it the one about the three day convention of some other religion and you show the different day's theme of their convention which happens to be --- each time?

They're not missing in the NWT Reference Bible, dear 3J (peace to you!)... which is one of the BEST bible versions your money... and JW connections, if you have them... can buy! Because... it's ALL in the footnotes... including the original source (so far as there is a source, which is always a copy of some other source).

Everyone who engages in any kind of Bible reading, study, research, or discussion... should have one. Or more.

    Peace to you!

    A slave of Christ,

SA, who says to those who are about to cry, "The NWT the BEST?? What the...?!!"... please note that I said "it's ALL in the FOOTNOTES"...

I had that the NWT reference bible as a gift from my JW friend and the Lord told me loud and clear in a prophetic dream to give it back.

In the dream I tried to reason why I had it (as indeed I had done in the flesh) but the Lord told me clearly "it is corrupting the bread" which it indeed was.

I had some trouble with getting the correct rendering of John 1:1 in my mind for example.

In the dream, after more reasoning He also showed me the raison d'être of the WT. It was not a pretty sight and I didn't want to look.

    Blessings,

    Stephen

He talks to us all. Not everyone is listening though.

The NWT is perfectly fine, in the areas of the bible that do NOT contridict WT doctrine, in those areas it is a horrid mess.
