But in the US? Mind boggling.

    Word.

Around 1956, after my mother left my alcoholic dad, we regressed something terrible.

We moved deeper into the woods; my grandmother refused electricity; she was what I now charitably call a Luddite.

I know you can make luddite clickable, Burn.

    Would you please?

By the way, I plan on starting a "regional recipes thread" later today. I can't right now because I am limited to a thread a day. You'd better share a southern fried chicken recipe when I do.

In modern usage, "Luddite" is a term describing those opposed to industrialisation, automation, computerisation or new technologies in general.

    That's it.

    You betcha!

Yeah, Chicken George's father through Kizzy.

    I actually felt betrayed.

    LOL.

Quentin, your list of old shows brings back pleasant memories. TV Land isn't what it used to be when it started, the only "old" show they still run is Andy Griffith. Three's Company and Everybody Loves Raymond (went to HS with Ray Roman btw) are not my idea of nostalgic TV shows.

Syl, being from New York, I find it hard to wrap my mind around the idea of not having electricity until 1971. . . I find that to be amazing.
